I see quite a few old threads about the Prius Gen III 12V battery, but I couldn't find one that directly answer this question:

Is there a 12V battery currently available at Costco (Kirkland brand or otherwise) that is a drop-in replacement for a 2010 Prius?

If not, are people still recommending the Optima 8171-767 DS46B24R Yellowtop battery? I read a post that it had fallen out of favor due to people experiencing problems, but I can't find that post.

If Costco doesn't have anything, and the Optima is still the one to buy, where's the best deal?

UPDATE: I found the post mentioned above: 2010 prius 12v battery? | Page 3 | PriusChat

There are 4 or 5 brands of direct drop-in replacements you can find on-line and in auto parts stores. Most haven't been around long enough for their durability to be known.

I bought this from Amazon a year ago and it's perfect fit.

In Canada at least, Costco has zip for the Prius.

OP, maybe fill in location in your profile?

Here's a thread with links to an Exide (available in States and Canada) and Motomaster rebrand (Canada):

    Service and availability means a lot. When I will need one, I'm buying this one;

SLI51PAGM Duracell Ultra Platinum AGM Battery
    - 2010 to 2014 L4 1.8L 325CCA Hybrid - Prius - Toyota - Car and Truck - Batteries Plus

The price is better than the Toyota dealer and the warranty can't be beat.

A warranty is NO good, if you can't get it to the place where you purchased it to avail yourself of it.

There is a FULL 48 months replacement warranty. And, I'm almost sure they retain your data in their computer. They have a store almost everywhere in the US. Mine is half a mile down the road from me.

i can't believe the price of aftermarket, not much savings. what really ticks me off, is the toyota customer experience sight takes you to a local dealer and an $85. battery special, even when you spec prius. try going in and asking for that.

I see the Canadian Tire site is pretty much hooped, as usual. Situation normal...

When I get a new battery I'll likely just get the OEM Yuasa S46B24R, through a local dealership parts department, for various reasons that override price.

It may be a perfect fit, but the Amazon website says it does not fit the Gen III Prius, only the Gen II Prius. Perhaps the website fit checker is wrong?

Good question. They seem to have 2 batteries, the Duracell and the Optima. The Duracell is heavier and has fewer CCA's than the Optima. Of course, CCA's aren't as important as in most vehicles, because it's not being used as a typical starter battery in the Prius, but I wonder if a higher CCA value will allow more use of electronics when the engines are turned off before the battery is too dead to perform it's job.

Anyways, both cost well over $150 at Batteries Plus / Batteries and Bulbs; the Optima can be found online for under $150, including shipping (although I don't know where it can be found, online or at a brick-and-mortar, for the lowest price).

Great question. The eLearnAid site sells it with a special kit, but I'm unclear if it's needed on a Gen III Prius.

It ALL depends on WHO does the ratings.

For the Prius, I would be concerned more about reserve capacity.

Heavier means either more electrolyte or pate material.

Then, who will honor the warranty on the Optima? Will they give you an immediate replacement?

To me, that would be worth the extra bucks spent.

I've been told that it is around $200 plus a half hour labor installation cost.

Going from (flakey) memory, the OEM was something like $219 from a nearby dealership, and $209 from another, further afield (and invariably having better prices). That's in Canada of course, so...

Plus a core charge, refunded when you bring them back the old one.

I'd much prefer to put it in myself, 'cause I like to hook it up to my charger, let it fully charge. And I'll clean the cable clamps. And I've got the time.

I think that's a great point. Now finding that data to be able to compare it... that seems to be a bit of a challenge.

No, CCA is not relevant to that issue, at least not directly. The ampere-hour rating is what you should look at for that angle. It tends to be proportionate to weight, although not exactly.

the oem's have treated us so well, if i could get one for 200, i would install myself. and they have improved the warranty, though still pro rated.
