My parents own an old generation Prius (from around 2005). If you need a place to store the key while you are driving, there is a hole on the dashboard where you can store the key. This is helpful if you don't want the key in your pocket or sitting in a cup holder.

My on 2010 Prius, that hole below the push button start is covered with some black cap. I tried pulling it off with my fingernails but it was tough. Is is supposed to come off if you want to use that slot for temporary key storage?

I love leaving the fob in my coat pocket and never having to take it out.

You could always put it in the center cup holder if need be. I think the slot on the side is for cards on the V?

I believe that slot is for the auto-parking system button on cars with that option.

Thanks for the replies. I forgot about the auto-parking system (I don't have that feature). Leaving it in the cup holder isn't too bad. I hope to not lock myself out of my car, but I think the Prius has a sensor that will keep it from being locked if it detects a key inside the car?

It does. My wife keeps trying to leave her pocketbook in the car with the other fob and it will not let her do it :)

Why not just leave the fob in your pocket? That's the purpose of SKS.

btw, the slot was for non sks or if your fob battery was dead. not for temporary fob storage.

My Wife has the spare in her hand bag. If she leaves her bag in the car I can lock it with the lock button on my FOB. It beeps to let us know the key is there but goes silent once I press the button. I know Aussie cars have different specifications so might not work on US cars??

How many keys do you really need? If you have to carry lots of keys for work purposes, just keep the fob and house key separate from them and in your pocket at all times.

Reminds me of some people who wear wallets three inches thick.

Not work keys- house keys, GF's Rav 4 keys, Fob and key finder. The key finder is what takes up most of the space- it's pretty big- but I need it!
