If you want to use the headphone jack on the iPod, you need a stereo minijack to minijack cord. The cord is the same on both ends; it looks like the end of the cord on the earbuds or headphones that you use with the iPod. You can get a cord like this at Radio Shack or a similar electronic store.

If you want to charge the iPod while using it in the car, Belkin makes an adapter that plugs into the recharging port on the bottom of the iPod (iPod dock connector) and also plugs into a 12v power jack. If you use this adapter, you do not have to use the headphone port for sound; the sound will come from the iPod dock connector. You will still need the minijack to minijack cord, but it will then plug into the adapter and the input on the car. This is the setup that I use and it works well.

Just buy a cable at wal mart, that both sides of the plug fit inside the headphone jack. Cost is about $5 - $7 for a nice thick one.

I'd highly recommend that you get more than just the mini-plug cable. Get the the Belkin product listed by Axxman. I have one and it has a couple of advantages: It charges your iPod and it takes the signal direct, rather than being gated by the headphone volume.

One caveat, turn down the gain on the Belkin end. if it's up too high, you;ll over drive and get lots of pops and noise. Turning it down and your stereo up works great.

Do you get any noise from the Aux power plug? I have a less expensive iPod kit that has a 3.5mm plug with a power adapter but no internal amp and I get noise when the power is plugged in. I usually just run on iPod battery and recharge once a week...

In order to get rid of the noise you need a Ground Loop Isolator. There's one at Crutchfield that should work. Just connect it to the AUX input and connect the 3.5mm cable to that.

Has anyone actually tried this Ground Loop Isolater? I went to Best Buy Radio Installation Center and the installer said he didn't think it would work because of the electric motor and additional voltage in the Prius. I just want to make sure it works before I buy. Thanks.

Yes it will work. But why the hesitation? It's like a 99 cent part. I'm betting Best Buy wanted to charge you 20 bucks for it.

Fantastic. The big question (can't tell if it is answered here) - does this isolate the gound? Will it play without the feedback hum in this configuration? If so, *awesome*. In the meantime, I went ahead and ordered one. It really is crazy that cars don't have the isolation built in. As others have said, this would add pennies to the vehicle. If you're going through the trouble of including an input jack - why not also make sure it'll work right?!

Additional voltage? That's pretty high up there on the list of retarded things to say about the Prius.

You can get the Belkin shipped from eBay for about $16.
