    This article inadvertently reveals something more telling than many people might realize. For quite some time now smallish cars have been on the decline as you can see from the chart below;

    In that article posted by the OP - the Toyota head honcho reveals the following;

    wow - almost got the ax. That would really be a shame, even though most people now in USA opt for larger vehicles.

    aren't people in japan generally smaller, or is that heightism?

    It is generally too true. at my 6'-5" height - walking around town tokyo - you'd think people were looking at Wilt Chamberlain instead of hill.
