Is there a way to enable the map system to fully function while the car is moving without inserting switches that could affect the GPS?

Yes do a search and there was a thread on the subject. I think there is a knoweldge base article on how to do it as well. It is a bit beyond me I am not willing to do that stuff with out some one holding my hand and showing me how to disassemble the car.

Most of the functions can be controlled with the voice activation system, although sometimes what I get is not what I command. Give it a try it.

Is the original point that Tim doesn't want to install the defeat switch or that he's concerned it will affect the GPS? We've established that the defeat switch will not affect the GPS. I don't think there's a way to use the NAV at speeds above 5MPH without the switch.
