    Hello,

I have a 06 Prius w/Nav and Back-Up Camera that needs a new MFD. Build date is 6/06.

I keep seeing two different part numbers on ebay:

    86110-47220
    86110-47071

Which one is the correct one? I know the -47071 one also fits the older 04-05 vehicles, so I wonder if it is the low-resolution model. However, one wrecking yard said the unit that came out of their 06 Prius was a -47071, so now I am not sure.

    Any advice?

    Thanks.

I can't speak to the part numbers, but it's still possible to have the old low res LCD if the 06-09 car doesn't have the backup camera. That owner's manual shows both types and I've personally seen some 06 or newer Priuses w/the old crappy LCD.

Contact Steve at Plug In Hybrid Electric Vehicle PHEV about your MFD. He rebuilds salvaged Prii and can supply you with the correct part at a reasonable cost. There are also good repair shops in CA (Steve is in Indianapolis) that will give good service, Luscious Garage and Art's Automotive.

I called Steve and he said he is unable to repair the 2006-09 units. He also did not have any units in-stock at the time.

Also, I called two Toyota dealerships (always check more than one) and both said that -47071 is for non-JBL cars and -47220 is for JBL-equipped cars.

On the one I am working on it, based on the VIN, it had the JB. So -47220 was the appropriate unit.

I found this one on eBay from LKQ with a 90 day warranty. The price was less than usual, plus I had a 10% off coupon, so I paid $465 total for it:

2009 Toyota Prius GPS Navigation Screen Monitor Unit - eBay (item 140536903030 end time May-01-11 20:14:51 PDT)

This unit was pulled from a 2009 Prius, so hopefully since it was on the last year of the production run, they had worked out all of the durability issues.

Done, swapped out the unit this morning and everything works fine now. Now, the question is-- what do I do with the old unit?

Maybe pEEf would want it (He can fix things and does it for Luscious Garage).
