Well, it's Prius to the rescue. There's no power in the neighborhood again, so I have my power inverter hooked up to the 12V battery to keep the food refrigerated. Yea! :D

It's 1500W, but it never goes that high.

I hope you lock your Prius when it's in READY mode and you are not with it.

BTW - here's a video I did on how you can get totally portable power (without a Prius) using an inverter and portable jump starter. Not nearly as much power as the Prius can provide, but plenty for small items like a lamp, radio, laptop / iphone charger, etc. :

Can you lock it from the outside when in ready mode?
I recall trying to do that on a recent "0"F morning where I went outside and started the PIP (went to ready mode then put defroster on at 68F which caused the ICE to instantly start up) and IIRC I was unable to lock it using the fob from outside the car while it was in ready mode...

I haven't tried it yet, but can you manually press lock on the inside of the door and then close the door?

    Or does that not work?

If you try to manually lock the doors, they will still unlock.

What I may try next time is to leave one of the fobs in the car and then try to lock it.

You have to lock it with the mechanical key - that's what I did when I had my C in Ready for 54 hours straight, powering my house after Sandy in 2012.

Interesting. How many gallons of gas did it use that situation? Just curious.

MEDIAHOUND, there are a lot of threads on this here. Try searching "using PiP as a generator".

Less than two gallons, but I was only running a very small inverter to bring up my steam heat, a couple of lights, and the internet. I can't post a link from here but if you search posts under my user name in November 2012 there's a detailed write up.
