Prius Race Is A Gas

To see who really had the best gas mileage and who was all talk, we organized the first ever - and probably the last - Arizona Republic Prius mileage-athon. The winner would be the driver who completed the road rally with the highest miles-per-gallon readout on his or her onboard computer monitor.
A dozen or so Prius owners at The Republic were invited to a pre-race meeting.
Maureen West, editor of the Phoenix Community section and owner of a 2005 Prius that averages 43 mpg, refused to participate: "Bruce will win."
