17,000 Prius and Prius v sold in December. +8.7% over Dec 2010

This places the Prius No 3 in the TMS/Lexus lineup and pretty close to the good soldier #2 Corolla which came in at 21,000 units.

In the overall picture the Prius..
    • outsold the entire Buick lineup
    • outsold the entire Cadillac lineup
    • outsold the entire Lincoln lineup
    • outsold the entire Acura lineup
    • outsold the entire Audi lineup
    • outsold the entire Infiniti lineup
In terms of the larger mass market lineups the Prius..
    • outsold all Chevy models except the Silverado and Equinox
    • outsold all GMC models
    • outsold all Ford models except F-Series, Escape and Fusion
    • outsold all Fiat-Chrysler models except the Ram pickup
    • outsold all Honda models except CR-V, Civic and Accord
    • outsold all Nissan models except the Altima
    • outsold all Hyundai models except the Sonata
    • outsold all Kia models
    More to come.

So that's a total for 2011 of 136K? Not bad compared to last year of 141K, considering the earthquake factor. They tried to minimize the effects of that, but it was pretty clear that slowed down their production for a good while.

So that means there were 2 other TMS/Lexus models that outsold those as well, of course. What is the third model?

The Camry and Corolla both outsold the Prius.

They do lump these things together. hybrid cars dashboard tries to separate the numbers. November they estimated 3,545 prius vs. They should be releasing the December numbers any day now.

The prius v is really a prius station wagon, which has traditionally been lumped together. The prius c is on a different platform, so if toyota follows convention these numbers should be broken out.

I would expect prius c sales to canalize some corola sales. Lets hope it draws more non hybrid drivers into the fold from both toyota and non-toyota. Either way the prius brand is likely to sell better than the corola/matrix when prius c is delivered.

They always do, both in top 10 of all cars, trucks for the year. I'll bet Prius (family) is about #16 for the year.

Top selling vehicle is the F series. The top of that is probably one of the most efficient the F150 2wd with ecoboost with a combined mpg of 18. I don't think you'll get much over 20 when you combine the top ten averaged with the sales numbers. Good news its 2mpg higher than the 2010 f150 that was also a best seller. Well that still isn't good, number 2 is the silverado with 16mpg combined.

Not to mention the No 1 seller.... the 'F-series' which is actually 4 different trucks. Ditto, Silverado and Ram.

Still amazed the F-series sells so much. The things aren't cheap and get horrendous mileage (good for a truck, but bad for transportation). And really unnecessary as well. I had four contractors at my house recently. One guy owned a Dodge Sprinter, because he needed to carry his kids from time to time, the rest owned a minivan, a camry and small pickup (very small and generally didn't use it), and a trail blazer. A van with shelving and roof rack can carry plenty of stuff around.

The F-250's drink gas like there's no tomorrow, but they're pretty bullet proof.

btw, Ford F series trucks are #2 selling vehicle of all time. Guess which is #1?....

Prius' combined sold about 135k units in US for the year, but Prius has a tough road to hoe because all top 10 sellers on car/truck list are well over 200k for the year, and ...

F series trucks and Silverado's sold almost a million units combined, argh. Better be using them for work or rough roads, places where you need a truck.

... whoosh goes the gasoline

with Prius c coming, Prius will definitively be in the top 10 for 2012 OR 2013.

except if they cant make enough of them... planned expansion to 1 million batteries / year has had been delayed in past, probably will happen in 2012. They are currently maxing 700k/year capacity.

With Prius c, Yaris Hybrid, ES Hybrid, Rav4 Hybrid + others that we have not heard of, they better raise that capacity.

I think in Japan, with return of ECO subsides, they might even sell 500,000 hybrids in 2012. December for Prius in Japan should be well above 30k, unless they have waiting lists due to Thailand flood, where a lot of Japanese manufacturers have significant operations (Toyota has huge base in Thailand).

Based on this year, need to make up 85k more Prius sales to make top 10. Not to cap on the c, but in our society, how many 156" long cars are we going to sell? I don't know annual sales of Yaris, but seems that's about what we'll be looking at. In Germany or UK with those smaller roads and parking spaces, and $$ gas, they'll grab cars like c, but here, the roads and spaces are bigger, gas is cheap.

I have to give TMC credit, they are giving great choices in FE cars.

Well, just write them environmental citations ....

J/K, J/K. That part of smug alert was kinda funny. Off topic, but anyone else remember 3 snide references to Jews in Smug Alert (as in backstabbing Jew)? I do. Geeeez.
