Hmm, looks like somebody didn't read Danny's guide for posting news:

We'll see how those sales numbers turn around come spring/summer and increased gas prices!

It is a shame that gas prices figure so prominently in hybrid sales.

I bought mine in February 2007.

I've noticed that those PriusChatters buying in February 2008 seemed to be paying a lot less (the typical price I see is around $2000 below MSRP).

The 14.5% drop in sales would explain this price decrease. Also, relatedly, the complete phasing out of the hybrid tax credit for Toyotas on 9/30/07.

Yes, but that trend was for February when gas prices were low. My point was that come the spring and summer, when gas prices rise significantly, hybrid sales will go up proportionally.

I bought my Prius in February 2008 and was one of those that was able to take advantage of the low sales volume (Package 6 for $2,100 under MSRP).

January and February are typically low sales months for dealers anyway. Couple that with low gas prices, which drives hybrid sales even lower, and you can get a pretty good deal on the Prius. But as I posted above, I am sure sales volume and purchases prices will go up when the gas prices rise this summer.

I bought my used Prius and got a really good deal on it two months ago when gas prices here were $2.67 or so per gallon. The dealer actually had a few Prius on the lot, apparently nobody wanted them.

Now gas is over $3.08 or so, and there's another waiting list for Prius. They have to be custom ordered.

Now if gas would just tip over the $4.00 mark...

Hybrid sales will go up - if we still have jobs come summer. Otherwise, a new Yaris may start looking like an unaffordable luxury car to many Americans.

Got that right!!!!! If the stupid politicians in the USA keep doing nothing, the oil companies will totally ruin the economy. The only new car we will be able to afford is a Chevy Aveo. Hatchback even the sedan will be too expensive.
