I called fastlane (automated tolls, like ezpass) to transfer my transponder to my new prius the other day. The young woman asked me what kind of car I would be moving it to. When I said 2008 Toyota prius she paused dramatically and then said "That is, like, the car of the day!"

I can't tell if it's just me but they seem to be EVERYWHERE now here in the Boston area.

I was in Seattle last weekend and was surprised at how few Prii I saw...no shortage of Subarus up there, though :)

I live in the Boston area and I see at least one Prius EVERY DAY! :D

My next-door neighbor has one... someone around the corner has two. They are everywhere. They breed in parking lots here. It's embarrassing, actually.

Nice to see another local on the boards, Fojae! It seems like people 'round here get Prius-fatigue and don't feel it's that special, but stay tuned to the New England forum and maybe we'll plan another meet some day!

How many Prii are there in Boston? In Berkeley alone I saw 123 Prii in the same day.

Driving around in circles and counting the same one over and over doesn't count :p

Actually, I'm sure CA has us beat, but there are lots here. Especially in the People's Republic of Cambridge.

Is it going to replace the Volvo as favorite car in that area?

I sure don't see enough in the Chicago suburbs on my commute, maybe 2 or 3 a day. There's no shortage of Ford Explorers and Jeep Cherokees though. I see more H2's and H3's than Pri on my drive and it makes me sick every day.

Speaking of EZ-Pass, you can get a green transponder for a Prius, and save 10 percent on tolls, at least on the NYS Thruway.

Seen it, done it! :D I like to get a discount for doing good for our earth! FYI, if you have a commuter plan already, the plan will not be discounted, only additional tolls. For example, I have the TZ bridge plan. I do not get additional 10% on the bridge, but I do everywhere else.

There are Pri all over Indianapolis - but when you leave the city and wonder around Indiana you almost never see Pri, unless you are on an interstate. Even though we now have a Honda plant, Toyota plant and a Subaru plant Indiana is still very much a "Detroit Big Three" state. I ain't mad at um - to each their own. My parents still sneer when I park my Pri in their driveway.

In Lafayette they are all over. In my 1/2 mile commute I always see at least 2-3 prii. In parking lots there is a guarantee of 2 prii, not including mine.

What's a bit baffling is with all the priiii around boston, why we
can't drum up more interest in serious indy tech-training around
here. You'd think they'd be falling over themselves wanting to learn
about hybrids and the cool new tech therein. As I put it in some of
the talks, "the time to learn about hybrids is not when one is
sitting in your bay emitting smoke" ... but I guess the industry's
usual schedule for getting up to speed on these things is about like
it was in the early nineties when they started to wonder about EFI --
after there were lots of cars already on the roads with it and
starting to fall off warranty. Purely reactive.

Will be tough to wean people off of their volvos and subarus. Many people around here believe that they need the AWD in order to get around in the snow. I never found it necessary with my '97 camry although it might have saved me an hour or two of shoveling after some of the really bad storms. Hopefully the prius will do at least as well as the camry in the coming winters.
