When I took a Prius for a check-up they quoted me $740.00 CAD to replaced Mounting Bracket and Pins on rear brake caliper.

I took a wheel off remove the first two screws and caliper cylinder, that was easy.
But when I try to rotate the sliding ping will not rotate at all. I took a wrench (size 14) and pound it with a hammer, no luck; the upper sliding pin will not move at all. Lower I was able to rotate it a bit but upper will not move. I spray it with WD-40 still upper sliding pin will not move at all.

It seems to me the mechanic tried move the sliding pin same way as I see some damage on the pin.
    What are my options?

The bracket is held by two screw, so I think I need to replace the bracket and the pins.

I'm just a duffer with a few pet peeves, and the main one, the 3rd gen rear brake parking mechanism, is not applicable to the v; it has a mini drum brake in the rotor.

I would think just replace the caliper mounting bracket, pins and boots. Lube the new pins (if kosher lube is not supplied) with something like Sil-Glyde Brake Lubricant.

Then repeat, at least every 3 years or 30K miles, whichever comes first.

    Thank you for confirmation.
That is what I was thinking. I just finished checking front and back. Front pins are OK gliding easy IN/OUT.
Rear pins on both sides are seized :-/
Though the brake pads after 120K Km still look like new, especially on the front.

Were fronts and rears serviced semi-regularly? It seems a little odd, that the front caliper pins are ok, vs seized rears.

I never touched them. I don't think dealer did anything to it either. They informed me last year that the rear pins are seized and need to be replace.
I'm looking on-line for Rear Caliper bracket for Prius V 2012 but they are not cheap about 150.00CAD/ea
I think the part numbers are:
    Caliper Bracket (Rear Right): 47721C
    Caliper Bracket (Rear Left): 47722A
    Sliding pins: 47814

I think I printed incorrect part number. It should be:
    Toyota Part No.: 47821-47080
    MOUNTING, REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER

    According to this web-page:
47821-47080 - Genuine Toyota MOUNTING, REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER
For: 2012 Toyota Prius V United States Of America; ZVW41L-AXXEBA
(Canadian models have same number on the door: ZVW41L-AXXEBA

They are listing same bracket for both left and right side, are they the same?

Maybe you can hone the barrels and fine emery cloth the pins? Depending on the pin condition. Didn't realize the costs!

I guess dealership goofed off, didn't follow Toyota schedule. I get the sense they're too busy pushing injector cleanings, can't be bothered with basics.

Yeah look in the book, should be every 30K or 3 years, per regular Prius.

That "sliding ping" has some find of rubber/plastic ring on the tip inside (maybe 5mm width), I don't know what is the function of that plastic/rubber ring. If I can not rotate the pin (hitting the range with a hummer), there is no way I will be able to remove the pin after I take the bracket off.
If I heat up the bracket, that rubber inside will melt and make the things worse. Poor design!

Maybe just buy new pins, try to hone the barrels the pins go into, see how that goes.

    I recently worked on our 2012 V's rear brakes...post is here :

Hi all, new Prius v owner | Page 3 | PriusChat

I warn you...the pics are horrifying ( the brakes were in really poor shape ). You can see the mini-drum parking brake in all it's rusted glory. I plan on doing another post with pics after I install the new parking brake kit. For now the old parking brake components are reinstalled after being cleaned up the best I could.

I also had a completely seized up caliper pin...the caliper socket was also rusted out. I 'reconditioned' the caliper socket with, believe it or not, WD40 soaks, and scrubbing with a plastic 'pipe cleaner' scrubber. Replaced caliper pin and it now works great.

How can I hone the barrel when I can not remove the pins? The pins will not even turn.

When removing caliper on all wheels I did not disconnect the 12V battery cable; but I was making sure nobody opens the door when caliper is taken out.

I would make sure the pins are available and then go ahead and heat the outside of the bracket, if they are seized what do you have to loose. I'm surprised Toyota didn't use some kind of plating that would resist seizing inside the bracket.
