The Prius V is quickly becoming the most widely leaked Toyota model since... the 3rd Gen Prius. Above we have a shot of the supposed Prius V (formerly Alpha) thanks to an Italian discussion forum. The photo looks exactly like what you saw months ago right here on PriusChat via a Japanese automobile mag. According to Toyota, we'll be seeing a new member of the Prius family revealed at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Our best guesses (and best sources) say that it'll be the Prius V. Here are some outstanding questions for you to tackle in the comments: Is there enough room for a 3rd row of seats? Where is the gas tank access? Can I get those wheels on my 2010 Prius sedan? What does V stand for? Photo via autopareri

Looks like a Honda Odyssey or pretty much any minivan. No sliding doors though. Are we sure this is an actual picture or 3D illustration? I still can't tell for sure.

Actually, it looks more like a Prius version of the Mazda5 (which is a legitimately good car).

Just as I imagined. Interior shots would be nice.

Since we've already seen the Prius V, albeit with a crease and in a Japanese Auto Mag, seems to me more precisely we have continued leakage of that which has already been leaked. Or optimal marketing leakage...Prius Chat is a great place to take a leak.

It is a 3D illustration by a Japanese car magazine, not by Toyota, so it is just someone's wish.

UPDATE: As convincing as this image looks, the keen-eyed folks at Carscoop have pointed out that this is not, in fact, the upcoming Prius MPV, and is actually a rendering crafted by Japan's Best Car magazine. Still, that doesn't change the fact that Toyota will be debuting the Prius people-mover at the Detroit show in January, and we'll have the full details after the turn of the new year.

i thinks it's good that it's "leaked" out.

now people can plan ahead when looking for a car that size.

if they had a pic of the rear would that be anal leakage?

I agree that Mazda5 will be its closest competitor in size.

Consumer Reports shows 23MPG in their tests of the Mazda5 (and 16MPG for the Dodge Grand Caravan), so if this new Prius can get 43MPG with 3 rows of seats, it would be the perfect size for larger families.

    Toyota Prius Verso:

I searched news.google.com back through all the news rumors and this is the furthest back that I could find:

Toyota Prius MPV: prime immagini della vettura definitiva

Using Google Translate (translate.google.com), the text from the original article translates to:

"Appeared on the network, the first images of the Toyota Prius without camouflage Verso MPV that will be presented at the Detroit Motor Show (10-23 January 2011). The van is equipped with the Prius hybrid HSD platform, composed of 1.8 to Atkinson cycle engine combined with an electric module with a total output of 138 hp. Compared to the sedan from which not even change the outside dimensions, whose length and height to increase the dimensions of their willing and accommodating seven passengers in three rows."

Note that this does not indicate what their source is for the information. It doesn't even say "according to sources." Apparently this author thinks he is the auto god, and when he speaks, people don't ask him for sources.

These are pictures of the current European Toyota Verso (4.44 meters).

I think the Prius MPV will be a lot bigger.

These are just the pictures of the current Toyota Verso in Europe, not of the Prius V.

    Good call.

Of course, maybe Toyota removed the body panels, added Prius body panels and and HSD, and viola ... Prius V.

You might be right ... but let's keep in mind two things:

    1) The Toyota billboard ad, with the "mystery vehicle" parked behind the Prius (roof lines compared).

    2) The spy shots of the alleged prototype, which I posted above.

What makes me think those spy shots really are a Prius? The size of the wheels and wheel wells, the "hump" on the dash, and the line at the bottom of the windows that goes across the car. It's the same style as the GenIII Prius.

(This is an enlarged image. Click on the image, then the plus sign in the upper left of the image, and then you will see the hump on the dash and the line at the bottom of the windows)

Well ... it was an enlarged image when I uploaded it. Looks like the computer website computer software is being counter-productive on this one.
