My step mom blacked out (unknown reason at this point) and swerved across the road into a telephone pole (sorry no pics) and sheared it off!

She awoke to Safety connect asking if she was ok. (she is)

15K in damage to is but she pretty much walked away though her chest is still sore which is expected.

It's amazing how much safer cars are today than even 10 or 15 years ago.

My point of this is how important Safety Connect or GM's On Star is (been there, used them) and I won't buy another vehicle without the assistance. I've had a ton of problems with my Chevy HHR but I always had a person to talk to.

I just wish my wifes 2010 Prius had it.

My step mom will not get her license back for at leat 6 months unless they find out why she blacked out.

The most important thing is my step mom walked away regardless of the cars condition.

Glad to hear she's ok! S/C would've sent an ER team if they got no response from the driver anyway.

Whoah. Glad to hear that she's okay. This story makes a good argument for Safety Connect, for sure!

I'm glad she's okay and hope the blacking out was only a one-time event!

As for the Safety Connect, this story reminds me of what someone told me once regarding airplane pilots. They're paid ridiculous sums of money to keep their cool for 10 seconds once every five or six years. And those ten seconds once every five or six years make all the difference in the world.

I had already decided to renew my Safety Connect and this story backs up my decision.

How did you know what speed she crashed into the pole?

I am glad that she is okay. I too, wish that I had Safety Connect in my baby (which I bought in June '09)... Maybe you should reach out to the Prius Marketing team and see if they would like to use her in a commercial, and have her explain what happened with S/C, and her experience with it. I've seen similar commercials for GM, and found them to be very effective in demonstrating the OnStar system that they have. Who knows, maybe she would be used for a commercial, and get paid for it...? Either way, glad she's okay. I'd love to see pictures of the damage, if it's possible, just to know how well the Prius holds up against a pole.

I agree with everything, except pilots don't make much... :( underpaid job really...unless you're in the majors or flying cargo.
