problem with plug in power cord not working

    In my 2012 prius plugin with 20638miles , my power cord is not working. I took it to my dealer this morning, Have any other plug in customers has had that problem and is it covered by warranty?

    and stand by your guns, some dealers seem to think it's 1/12k.

    Well all turned out fine. My dealer Jim Coleman Toyota ordered me a new power cord and now I am a happy camper. Chris helped me .

    I'm charging a 2012 and 2013 PIP every day with the same cordset, and it's getting harder and harder to get the connection to the cars to "engage." Has anyone had this problem? and if so, is there a fix?

    yes, there is a gasket at the bottom of the charging head that becomes dislodged. the solution turns out to be removing the gasket and discarding it, it is unnecessary.

    I was unable to charge at a free University of Buffalo charge point location recently and I had to removed the troublesome seal.
    I guess this means no more under water charging :)

    I am just experiencing the same issue with my '12 Prius PHV with 52k miles. I'm outside of warranty :0(

    Hello Bisco. This is an old thread but I’ve been having trouble with the power cord plugging into my PIP outlet for the last six months. Now it will not plug in at all! The dealer has no clue what to do. Your recommendation to remove the seal sounds OK but I’m not sure if you mean the seal on the end of the power cord? Or is it in the car outlet area? I leave my PIP outside in rainy Seattle....will this reduce the waterproofing of the outlet? Thanks!

    @bisco and I are of the same opinion. As are lots of others including, apparently, Toyota since they've removed it from newer models. That o-ring on the handle of the EVSE serves no purpose unless the car is submerged. And then that seal is the least of your problems.

    Look at the construction, the way it overlaps, and the way the gaps are on the downward side of it. Water can't crawl up and into the connections. It's built like sort of like the weatherhead where the power comes into your house if it's over head. It's basically a snorkel. But it's for electricity rather than air. The Prime uses the same construction for its EVSE without the o-ring as did the later models of the PiP.
