I am a relatively new owner of a 2007 Prius and am curious about a sound I hear quite often while driving.

The sound is similar to a cd changer changing disks my package doesn't have the disk changer). It seems to happen when braking but I haven't pinned it down to one catalyst.

It seems to be a normal sound and I am not worried about it since riding in my roommates '07 Prius and heard the same sound.

    Any insight on this sound?

    Thanks!
    Joe

I bet it's the brake systems accumulator pump
... does it sometimes go even when the car is off?

That pump maintains a pressure for the odd and complicated brake system...inchuding the pedal feel which is simulated.

Yep its the accumulator. Sounds like a rattlesnake kinda.

The rattlesnake-like brake noise should be repro if you pump the brakes repeatedly, even if the car's power is off.

I'll try that out next time I'm in my car. Thanks!
