I've had my car a couple of weeks and just noticed a bulge or pop on the passenger side front between the front door and headlight. It is not a dent as it pops out slightly. There are no scratches. Is this part of the design?

That doesn't sound right to me. It's probably going to be difficult to get a good picture of it, but if you could post one, that would definately help us with your question.

I can try the picture. The more I look at it the more it looks like something hit it. The pop out may be the way it dented. At least it didn't damage the paint.

If you have a dent that popped out, you should get it to a body shop right away. Apparently, popping a dent back into place is easier if they do it within the first day or so (I think I saw a post where someone said 48 hours.)

Thanks. I'll see if I can find a body shop close to work tomorrow. It will be closer to 72 hours I think.

My mechanical engineering training is pretty rusty but I don't recall anything from my metalurgy courses that would support this assertion.

Since you have a recently-purchased '06, I'd contact the dealer---not because it's their fault, but because they may be in the best position to help you.

Many dealers now employ mobile body/paint specialists who drive trucks from dealer to dealer, fixing small dents and touching up paint. Much better for the dealers, not having to run cars back and forth to a body shop that may be crowded in any case.

If your dealer uses one (or more) of these people, ask if they can help you get in touch with him. If they DON'T use one, ask if they know what nearby dealer DOES.

If you can locate one of those mobile units, you may be able to save time by taking your car to HIM at a place he's already working, rather than asking when he can schedule coming to you.

    Just a thought.

Sounds like someone left a tool in the engine compartment while they closed the hood. Had any work done on your Prius lately??

Turns out it was two dents. The way it was hit made it look like it had popped out. It must have been hit by a person or basketball, etc. not a vehicle. I found one of the paintless dent removal services. He was able to restore it to new. Looks great. Thanks for all the advice.
