I was thinking of getting a Beltronic radar detector. The Beltronic site says certain types of solar glass will reflect radar. The glass in my 2007 Prius says UV, I assume it blocks a certain percentage of UV rays. Can anyone tell me if radar detectors works ok in their Prius with UV glass? I think the problem might be only with metalized glass such as my Saab had. I don't speed much... 40mph in 35 zone (and we all know why) but the cops always come out before the school zones activate.

My Escort 8500 X50 works perfectly though the windshield of my "07 Prius.

Shouldn't be an issue with the Prius. The windshields that interfere with RF are mainly the GM kind that have a metallized film that acts as a defroster. (I wouldn't mind one of those, actually.) A few european makes have issues, too, but they typically have a couple of spots (one high and one low) where you can place a detector without an issue. Totally irrelevant rambling since we don't have that, anyway.

Just don't let the laser sensor get within view of the MFD because it will false like mad. (More of a V1 issue than anything else.)

It should work fine as long as you don't speed. ;)

I have an escort 8500 X50. The same company builds both units but keeps seperate names on the devices. I compared mine to a Beltronic pro series. Mine works just fine but I have realized that with this car I don't speed much and mostly will only use mine for the same purpose as you do.....darn school zone right in the middle of my ride home on a downhill slope more than a mile long. Bahhhhh! I have not had any issues with mine and have been running it for a few weeks now.

heh. The times that I've been in cars where the radar or lidar went off it was a sure indication that we were getting pulled over. In my Prius I was lucky enough that I saw an unmarked WASP err WAshington State Patrol pull over a couple of other guys I was following... (http://pstoc.com)

I think it'd be much nicer to to have a beltronics 905 or an escort shifter zr3... ;)

I'm not gonna lie, all this talk of using a detector to speed through school zones bothers me. I used to have a detector but that was not the place I used it. Ever. Kids make poor judgement calls (e.g. running into the street) and tend to be there at times other than those during which the lights are flashing. Is it really that much trouble to slow down in such a high-risk area?
