2004 Prius ran out of gas and ran out of battery trying to get to gas station. Car sopped with exclamation in triangle and would not turn off . Would go into park. Put gas in but still acted like a frozen pc. Disconnected 12 volt and when 12 volt connected car started and worked normally. Question-- is there any way to reset computer other than cold boot?

I've never run my Prius out of gas and I bought mine new in January 06.

I've never heard of this locking up business either. How many gallons did you put in? I believe you have to put in at least 3 gallons for it to register.

Wrong forum. Just be glad that you didn't damage the HV battery pack.

    1) Don't run out of gas.

    2) Don't try to drive to a gas station if you ignore #1.

    3) After ignoring #2, a 12V disconnect may be the only way to reset. It's not a standard condition.

    4) Please post in the correct forum.

Running out of gas sets one or more DTCs (P3190, P0A0F). Running the hybrid battery low will set another one, P3000/388. The car will restart with a power cycle on the former, but not the latter. On the latter, the only option is to clear the code with a reader and restart, or do a 12V battery disconnect.
