rearview camera- distance inccorect

    I just got my Prius IV this week.
    one thing I notice is that the rearview camera
    does not give you an accurate view of the true distance
    example -when backing up and the end of the car aligns with parking stopper in the screen, in actually they are about two feet apart
    is this because of the way the camera is mounted? and if so can it be repositioned
    or because of the field view of the camera?
    any help with this will be greatly apreciated

    I can't answer for the Gen III specifically, but info on the Gen II may be
    helpful in coming to an understanding of how your camera 'works.'

    On the Gen II, when the top of the bumper 'touches' something on the
    ground, that object is ~12 inches from the bumper. So, as you
    approach a 'parking stopper,' wall, or post, when the top of the bumper
    touches the line where that object meets the ground, you can stop with
    12 in. clearance, or creep just a little closer if you choose.

    You might want to run some tests with a small rock or something on
    the road surface and a ruler to see if this holds true for the Gen III or
    not.

    Other than this usage, and a general check on wahts 'out back,' I find
    the wide fish-eye view of the back-camera totally useless and
    disorienting, especially when backing in a curve.

    thanks for the info
    the reason i asked that, is because in the infinity g35 the rearview camera everything align true
    the end of bumper aligned correctly with an object on the ground.
    i have also read read the the greater the angle the less accurate the view(170 degrees versus 120 degrees)
    does anybody know the view angle on the prius IV 2010 camera?

    If the two pink lines are in line with the edge of your bumper, the camera is properly aligned. It's most likely the fish-eye effect that's throwing you off (e.g. my parking stall as a pillar on one side and there's a point where if I look at the camera, I'm gonna hit the pillar but in actuality, I'm cleared and the corner of the bumper is well into the width of the pillar)

    The camera is not mounted in the center of the cr, it off set to the drivers side. This might be why...

    I know the fisheye lens distorts the peripheral vision of the camera
    but in the center of the camera there should be no problem
    which i notice is the same for both the prius and infinity cameras.
    is just the perception is off in the prius camera.
    haw anybody readjusted the camera, and if so was it hard to do?
    os is it in a fixed position?

    Brake replacement.

    :focus:I will soon have to replace brake pads & shoes. I read where a fuse has to be removed first for some reason I don't know about. Can someone explain this so I don't get into trouble? Also I read where someone has put leather on the arm rests & the center console lid. Where can this item be obtained?

    You posted your question in a thread on an entirely different topic, so it's not likely to be seen or answered. I suggest you re-post your question by starting an entirely NEW thread. And while you're at it, put that new post in the proper forum. You posted here in a 3rd generation 2010 forum, but you have a 2006, so you need to make that NEW post in the 2G or 2nd generation forum, then maybe it will get more visibility & some answers.

    One other use you may find useful is backing out of a parking space when there are large SUVs parked on each side of you. Because of the wide field of view, by backing out just a few feet you can see if there is a crazy person speeding toward your car butt, and you can stop in time to avoid a crash. No way can you see them out of your side windows.

    I like the idea of using cones or some kind of markers, you could set in the car and watch while someone moves them until they are right on the lines. Mine seems to give me about 2 or 3 inches of clearance when I put something right on one of the lines pink lines.
