Fast regretting ordering a Toyota Prius PHEV. Delays over delivery. Apparently only one key fob supplied initially. Recall over an unnecessary way of opening the rear doors. Weird tyres sizes. 12v battery failing to hold its charge. Offer of a free HomeCharge not available to me because I ordered it too early (sic). Prius brochure no longer available on the Toyota website which makes me wonder if they have changed their mind about starting to market it in the UK due to the lack of interest. Which could explain why they are offering a free HomeCharge, including installation, to encourage orders. Dealer failing to respond to my enquiries.

Naively I thought Toyota was a bit special.

If there's a long waiting list, as I've been told,
you won't have a problem canceling your order.

Is it a non refundable deposit?

unfortunately, Toyota isn’t as special as they used to be

It is a boutique car. It will have its quirks. I am sure you will be very happy once you get it.

Are you getting the 17" or 19" wheels?

It is interesting that the UK version has quad LED headlights. In the US, Gen 4 Prius Prime had quad LED headlights, but Gen 5 was downgraded to single LED headlights—along with some other downgrades Gen 5 saw over Gen 4.

    Might be worthwhile asking.

Many thanks for the quick responses.

I paid a deposit which is refundable subject to a test drive, which I have in writing.
The model I ordered is the Design version which has 17 inch wheels.
I confess I hadn’t noticed the headlights are different on the UK cars.
Thanks for the link to the UK Prius brochure which I haven’t seen since Toyota removed it from their website.

So much about ordering this car has become mysterious. Brochure disappearing. Strange offer of HomeCharge which wouldn’t be necessary if car is popular. Dealer not interacting with me.

Yep... That about sums it up... Meanwhile the Gen2 was a high MPG economy car and they used to sell 25K of them a month in the US for years. There wasn't anything boutique about it back then. It was dominating the market back then.

In my case, they said I could easily cancel, because there was a 1 year waiting list.
I'm not sure how much of that was because of consumer laws.

I guess when automakers realized they needed to start copying Tesla, the long waiting lists was the cheapest and easiest "advancement" to adopt.

There is more than the disappearing brochure. In my introduction to this thread there were a number of things I listed that has made me question my decision to order a Prius. I think the most annoying was Toyota’s offer of a free HomeCharge including installation (worth over £1,000) which will not be available to me because I was too enthusiastic in ordering as soon as it was released.

There might be a way 'round that. It'd be semi proposterous, to cancel your order, recover your deposit, and go to the back of the line again. Contact corporate Toyota?

Still, I have a hunch it's a fox-and-the-grapes scenario; judging from your list of negatives: you didn't really want that car anyway?

Just editorial: why the "(sic)", in your own text?

Do like Mendel said, or put an order in at a different dealer and cancel your current one.

My advice is that perhaps you should postpone ordering the car until you are more sure about it.

Thanks for the advice, views and opinions. I have decided that I don’t want a Toyota Prius. I will get my deposit back at the first opportunity.

Not much point me staying on this forum.

    Goodbye.

That's just the reflection of the fence. UK headlights are the same as anywhere else, afaik. I think maybe OP hadn't realised the low-spec cars with 17" wheels don't have the integrated DRL+indicator setup?

Only thing I could think of was, to OP it seems absurd to miss out on something because they ordered too early (as opposed to too late) so they are clarifying that they indeed meant to type "too early" and not "too late".
