Looking at the Toyota Entune Simulator on iTunes, the Prius Plug-In allows one to turn on the cars Air Conditioner (or heater I guess) via a smartphone as long as the car has Safety Connect (Apparently you can also locate the car as well).

According to the printed sales brochure, the 2013 only allows one to turn on the AC within 30 yards via the Key Fob.

Clearly, this is not as functional as remote climate via a smartphone from distances that a human walking to their auto will cover in several seconds - and at that rate, the car will not be much cooler at all.

Perhaps this is Toyota's answer to screwing customers of the Plug In take difficult decisions such as Interior color away from PHEV customers, especially those who suffer with internal temps of well over 130 degrees in Florida, Texas, Arizona and Palm Springs.

Dealers are clueless (did not even know one could do that with a Plug-In). Called Toyota Safety Connect and after being transferred through 4 individuals, they finally decided that was not available on the normal 2013 Prius with Safety Connect.

Is there any way around to control and monitor internal temps of a 2013 Gen 3 Prius via a smartphone (Tracking would be nice as well, but I guess Toyota won't let that happen easily)?
