enjoyed the detailed explanation above on brazing. I have a question going in the reverse direction. How do you unsolder or unbraze a silver-soldered joint between stainless steel and brass without destroying optical components housed within?

There are some commercially made copper braids, sold under names such as SolderWick, which can be used with flux and heat to draw off the brazing material (in this case silver solder). You dip the braid in flux, then press it onto the joint and heat the joint and the braid. Once the solder melts, capillary action will draw out most of the solder.
