Can anyone recommend a method for removing the "flange" on a shower faucet so that I can get to the stem and fix a leak. The shower valve socket wrench isn't long enough to reach the nut.

Mine have a setscrew hiding at the bottom of the flange - feel around or look with a mirror. Try a Google search on the name of the faucet manufacturer looking for instructions. Good Luck!

I may not understand the situation correctly. But when a socket wrench does not reach, I use an open-end or adjustible wrench, or a vice grip.

You know you'll likely need to apply some heat to make a repair, right?

Shower faucets usually are just soldered to thin copper pipe in the wall, and if you need to take it apart for repair (or in my case, flip the mixing ball over because the person who put it in put the ball in upside-down and my hot and cold water were reversed) you'll usually bend or rupture the copper tubing if you just put a big wrench on it and go for it. You usually need to apply some heat to loosen things up so the valve body can be taken apart without applying a lot of force.

It's kind of hard to advise without seeing what you have. Some screw off. Maybe a deep socket will work. Here's a pumbing site that has lots of good info in case you didn't know about it.

This may surprise some, but PC doesn't stand for "Plumber's Chat."

This is Fred's House of Pancakes. The place for anything unrelated to the Prius. If it's related to the car it does not belong on this forum. The shower faucet question qualifies.
