Replaced the tranny on a 2008.

I noticed the streering wheel airbag light is on now.

Will it deploy on me randomely?

Also, I noticed that my buttons on the wheel aren't working( the temperature buttons, aux audio buttons..)

I don't mind going under the hood, what do you guys suggest?

I don't think so. Everything was working well (without the light) for about 3 days before today. Not only did the light come on today but the buttons don't want to work anymore.

If you dropped the steering rack you have to tie up the steering wheel so it does not free wheel spin because if allowed to do so it will rip the clock spring which is basically the printed circuit board under the steering wheel face. The steering wheel has to be pulled off and clock spring assy replaced.

Clockspring aka Spiral cable is broken behind airbag. When you remove subframe you must secture steering wheel with seatbelt or rope etc so it doesn't turn on its own.

You can replace clockspring with a Chinese one and it will last about a year. New one from dealer will last 10 years but is almost $300. Anything on Ebay that says it's new Toyota at a price under $200 is counterfeit and will last about a year.

If it doesn't work the junkyard most like broke it during removal. BTDT!
(they remove the engine/tranny/subframe then the steering wheel is free to rotate far enough to break the clockspring).
Hopefully they pulled the clockspring BEFORE the subframe.
