Is it possible to install a replacement audio system in Prius 2010? Not talking about the speakers, they're fine, but the wheel-controllable iPod/iPhone system sucks big time.

In addition to the weird noises it makes after iOS 4.1 update (there's a thread about it in this forum), the system stops playing every now and then, informing about "Error -101" or "Error -1" (don't remember the number any more). This has been tested with an iPod nano, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, with 5 different USB cables.

And yes, the audio and everything else is fine if I use the 3,5mm plug, but then I loose song controls & charging.

It might be that changing only the front end of the stereos to a different make wouldn't solve the annoying USB error thing though.. Is there a central iPod/iPhone module somewhere below the USB/3,5mm plug holes or behind the frontend, or..? Maybe that should be replaced also :).

And no, please don't recommend any Bluetooth or FM transmitter replacements.. they don't charge the phone :).

Maybe just rad the posts in this forum (???) - many have added Pioneers, Kenwoods, Chinese things etc. They all can use the steering controls, some have added remotes (Pioneer) to add more functions at the wheel - they all do a decent job with USB and iPxxxx.

They pretty much all cost $600+ - but include GPS...
