I put a deposit down on a 2007 Magnetic Gray. I know I'm probably losing half of the tax credit, but I haven't had much luck finding what I wanted (#7 or #8) in a color I would drive in a 2006. Looks like I'm just a month late to the tax credit party. Oh, well.

Really excited to get my prius! I was told "end of September".

EDIT: See last post. Pics at:

If you're able to get it before the end of September, you'll get the full tax monte.

As of 7/11/06 the IRS had NOT listed the 2007 Prius as eligible for the tax credit.

True. But I think it's reasonable to expect that they will. I seem to remember it was an abnormally long time before the '06 was certified as "eligible."

You have to take delivery of the car before Sept 30. You use the invoice from the dealer that states when the car was put into service for your tax records.

How is paperwork going to help you? You may or may not get your car by the 30th, if I'm reading correctly, and even if you do, as of this date the IRS does NOT have the 07 Prius listed for a tax credit.

By "paperwork" I mean, going to pay for the car and get title and all that, since the dealership had the VIN.

Turns out, I show up at the dealership today and they have an '07 Black Touring Edition on the lot....so I took it!

I now am the proud owner of a black touring '07! It's sweet.

I just checked the IRS website, buying a Prius tomorrow to omake the deadline. It looks like the 2007 is approved for the tax credit. http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=157632,00.html

One thing that surprised me, so far, is that the wheels have plastic coverings on them. The entire silver-colored wheel you see is plastic. They pop off easy to reveal a gray-colored alloy wheel, which I don't think looks too good with the black body.

    Black with gray interior....very nice.

With the additional whatever the touring advertises...does that mean no BT stiffening brace needed?

That's a good-loking car right there. Enjoy your new Prius.

I have no idea. I quickly test drove a package 3 2006 a couple months ago. This car does seem to handle better than I remember the other one handling, but that is so not scientific. It is supposed to have some kind of "tuned" suspension, different than the normal model.

Yes. But a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush, so they say. When I got to the dealership and saw that they had this car on the lot, I figured I was better off driving away with it than paying for a car that wasn't even there yet (which I was going to do to get the full credit).

Fantastic. Congratulations on getting a car that's as wonderful as it is beautiful.

When you get a chance, you might want to update your Prius Chat profile to reflect the good news.
