Rewiring the shifter

    Has anyone figured out how to rewire the shifter to reverse the sequence so that park is out and drive is in?

    (2002 Prius)

    Why would you want to do that?
    Besides, park is on a separate button, not part of the shifter, at least on mine.

    <_< IMO, the well-thought-out design of the Prius shifter (and many other elements) would be very difficult to improve.

    The older generation Prius is different and by the OP's signature I'm guessing his knee hits the shifter when it's in drive.

    That's it exactly, I'm 6'4" and it's my only complaint. Surely it's just a sequence of pins in a connector to map the shifter position to the transmission signals. Wouldn't it be great to be able to see the dashboard while you're driving?

    not exactly. it's a pretty substantial mechanical device. there is a type of switch inside there, but the first gen prius has a steering column lock. so even if you rewire the switch successfully, you wouldn't be able to turn the steering wheel when you shift to drive.

    You're right, I opened it up and there are several mechanical interlocks, reversing does not seem feasible.
