To read the full salon article, you have to click on the sponsor. Sometimes there is no sponsor and it appears later. I am not a techie, so I don't know why. Something to do with cookies?

A friend of mine just reviewed his book, so I bought myself a copy - thanks to Amazon prime, it should arrive today. He's apparently a little snarky, but I rarely hold that against an author. We'll see i=)

I just set my DVR for Colbert on the 17th - someone bump this thread and let me know if it's worth watching

It just arrived! The God Delusion, that is. (Thank you, interlibrary loan.) I'm sure I will like it, having read:

    The Selfish Gene
    The Blind Watchmaker
    Climbing Mount Improbable
    The Ancestor's Tale

I'm only half way through mine. Lots of interesting facts and many amusing anecdotes. Once you've read what he says about the Bible you'll never see the Bible in quite the same way at all.

Another philosopher who thought religion had done more harm than good in the history of the world was Bertrand Russell.

For more on the historical (or lack thereof) basis of the bible I recommend the work of Bart B. Ehrman. HIs book, "Misquoting Jesus" and his Teaching Company audiobook courses are excellent.

    Cheers!

Right. Russell is well worth reading too. You could try Russell on religion : selections from the writings of Bertrand Russell
