Q "Is there a reason carpool cheaters do not get a moving violation on their record? It would seem an obvious way to reduce cheating."

A "Traffic officials say moving violations are reserved for driving violations that pose a safety risk, such as speeding, sudden lane changes or blowing through a red light. Originally, they said carpool cheaters were not a safety hazard, but that attitude is beginning to change. I fired off your e-mail and the thoughts of others upset with carpool cheaters to state Sen. Joe Simitian and his "There Ought To Be A Law" contest, asking him to consider legislation that would make this a moving offense. If it was, it would be a point against a driver's record and could result in higher insurance rates."
