Mr. Roadshow: Prius owners drive too slow — or is it too fast?

(Not exactly "news" but Mr. Roadshow is a regular column in the San Jose Mercury News where the columnist regularly answers questions about road work, problem interchanges and intersections. Sometimes the Prius comes up.)

And where you drive, they do it on the wrong side of the road. That's really scary.

Nice find and he deftly handled the 'complaints.'

Yes, as opposed to most of us, who would tell them to "go pound salt..."

"Salt"? What am I missing? I thought it was sand.

We use salt. It hurts a lot more than sand.

Wow! I don't own a Prius yet(mine is on order) but it seems like there is a lot of hate for Prius drivers. :)

I am sorry to say that I am one of those drivers who complains about both the slow drivers and the fast drivers but I don't put anybody into a certain class. I just think there are bad drivers and good drivers.( Of course I am a good driver)!

Well, yes the article was funny. But I'll tell you Pearl ruined my lifelong fun with cars. See, I'm a "car guy". I have always liked fast, powerful cars. Now I just see them for what they are - gas guzzling money wasting pots that urge you to donate money to the police. Sigh. No more droning down the road at the speed limit in a car that can -safely- go three times the speed limit (in absence of other cars). Such as the 93 RX-7 I owned and sold right after I got Pearl.
I'm not "sanctimonious", I just grew up.
    Now I "race for efficiency".
I think it's more fun, less worrying, and much less expensive.
    Yup, it's -MY- "hybrid premium".
    :) :)

I'm going to agree with Mr. Beale. I missed driving fast, big trucks, but now when I go look at a car even for fun, I ask why the engine doesnt shut off. Heck, even when driving our Camry on Saturday night, I was wondering why the engine was still on at the light and why you could feel the gears shifting.

More often FUD (Fear Uncertainty and Doubt) as well as echoing nonsense asserted by others. Mostly, I don't worry about it unless someone tries to get in my face. Then I simply offer to take them to lunch and toss the keys to them on the way back and say,"Here, you drive."

That doesn't mean they go out and buy a Prius but at least they tone down the nonsense.

How many Prius do you suppose we have collectively sold doing just that? People are always amazed when they drive one.
