CO2 figures given are pretty low for electricity. In the US, electricity is pretty dirty.

Maybe he's using UK numbers. Also keep in mind that its g/km while your graph is g/mi.

I see what he's seeing about it - Leaf is the first highway capable car that can be purchased at a reasonable price.

I drove it indoors today along with many others at the SF auto show (they had like 6 of them for driving). Could never pull that off in a conventional.

Could seat 4 or squeeze in 5 adults easily in this car. don't get the flat load floor out back due to the charger running over the axle, but cargo space not bad.

Time will tell, but I won't be surprised to see these multiplying around the Bay Area .... soon.

HAH yeah. Our neighbors will eat anything up that screams bourgeoisie and up.

Though I have no interest in the Leaf, I'm really tempted to pull in to a Nissan dealership with my Prius and make them try to sell me one. Though they probably don't give a s*** cause they have a waiting list going out the door. :(

The Leaf is definetly promising, but am I the only one turned off by that "bubble butt"?;) Seems to me you could get nearly six inches more space if the roofline were pulled back a bit!

I'm sure the aftermarket companies will be all over this car with custom body panels and ground effects kits.

Fantastic video - thanks! Great to see Robert on Fifth Gear; I've always enjoyed his YouTube videos and think he's a fine presenter.

We really are on the cusp of an exciting time in automotive history. I remember as a kid 10 years or so ago when the first Hybrids came out and getting excited every time I saw one, and trying to think ahead to the "future" (ie, now) and thinking "Wow, I can't imagine a time when cars powered by anything other than solely gas will be the norm."

Yes Nice Video. Someone that clearly understands the car.

Here's my (and a few others) brief personal experience with the Leaf.

It appears Robert Llewellyn is a bit of a hybrid and EV buff. He has presently got a show running over here where he interviews various tv personalities in his Prius or Prius plug in as he drives around. So it's no surprise he has done a review on the Leaf.

Sad (and annoying) thing is that I can't view the above posted clip due to copyright issues!

Yeah he made an appearance at the Prius 10th Anniversary party in Malibu back in October. A quick Q&A session.

Really? Well you can check five.tv and maybe they'll have the clip posted there. It's from this past week's episode of Fifth Gear.

    Love the video.

I'll be driving one this next weekend at the Nissan Leaf Drive Event in Tempe, AZ (Sat, 11am).

Well IMO he's much better than Jeremy Clarkson. If it doesn't go fast and and it's not made in Europe, he doesn't care. What an ***.

But Top Gear is originally made for the UK and US cars don't sell well over here mainly due to the fact that a 5 litre petrol car that has worse reliability than a French car just doesnt cut it (£1.20 a litre petrol $7.12 gallon).

Oh and the fact that when they do actually try and market a US car here they pretty much always forget that we have the steering wheel on the right hand side. The only US company that half got it right was Chrysler but they're not exactly renounded for their quality.

    Just a thought. ;)

Nissan said the Leaf was supposed to come out in December 2010. Well... It's December 2010 now. :)

When are you guys going to start driving on the correct side of the road? :D

Nice video. The CO2 comparision is of course way off.

I wasn't talking about U.S. Cars. I was talking about the other side of the world, you know, Japanese cars!

Please explain? I thought it made sense. Is the CO2 comparison way off for US figures or just generally way off. The figures quoted were for the UK where we import most of our oil and electricity isn't as coal intensive as some places. The figures were also metric.
