I realize this is an odd question coming from a Prius owner. But I'm on vacation driving our EV right now, and the Prius isn't handy. And I'm hear trying to order parts for a new project... and need to know if the roof of the current Prius is steel or aluminum. I have already surprised myself to find that the hood and some other parts are aluminum. Can somebody try to stick a magnet to the roof for me (or just answer if they already know!)? Would be much appreciated!

    Thanks,

As an Aside, when I had my poor baby in to get the ding from the Silverado fixed, the body shop guy told me:

The Hood is lighter than the box it comes in.

The Hatch is lighter than the Glass that goes in it.

:) I have no doubt that both of those statements are true. Especially the one about the glass! Glass is not only heavy, but is also used as a main structural element in just about all modern cars now (the windshield). Was a brilliant move when the car makers figured out that they could use this heavy item as part of the structure while trimming weight from the parts they USED to use as the structure. But we digress...

glass as a structual member is one of the reasons to ask your glass shop if they use ureathane or butyl tape when they change w/s or back glass. If they say butyl tape take it somewhere else. No strength in that stuff.
