Hi all, my 2012 has 117,xxx miles and seems to be pretty rough when switching from ev power to gas. Notice it more now with new commute. Didn't really realize till I drove my friends 2011 Prius with the same amount of miles, only difference is mine has been maintained much better. His was so smooth! Mine has top teir gas, best oil, changed every 4-5k, new spark plugs, fuel injector cleaner, I've even cleaned the throttle body!

My friend hasn't done any of this and hardly maintains his car. It still has the original plugs in it.

    Any ideas.. Suggestions??

    Thanks!

I think you might be right. I'm honestly a little scared of that job! I'm sure it would be good for my car in the long run.

Guess I better make the time in the near future

Your ICE has been better maintained. What does that mean? Probably faster startup to full power which is probably higher than the poorly maintained ICE. So what do you think will be the natural affect of a faster startup to a higher full power output will be?

    Good thought anyway:cool:.

It's not challenging, just takes patience and time. Ratcheting wrench and E8 torx sockets are your friend on this job.

You can handle it after performing an engine swap (y).

Honestly I'm scared to clean out the EGR system. That was one of the hardest parts on the engine removal process believe it or not.

In lieu of cleaning the EGR system, what the cost of replacing with OEM replacement?

$300+ or go to a salvage yard and pick the cooler and valve up for ~$100. Clean at your leisure and have a spare ready for the next time.

How do you like the red on your Prius? I'm pleasantly surprised with mine. I'm not normally a red car person - suspect it was the speeding tickets I got in my red 1983 Mustang GT in my younger years. :)

I love it:)! It was either Barcelona Red or the Dark Blue when we bought in July of 2009. When you wash it, it still sparkles in the sunlight!

I've only owned one other red car: a 99 Dodge Avenger. Let's just say moving to Toyota was a wise move on many fronts(y)

On my way home from work today my car made an awful noise while switching to gas. It sounded like a metallic clunk, and almost backfire.. But after that one incident it seemed very smooth switching back and forth. Very odd

Look my car to two exhaust shops to inspect my exhaust system for the rattle and clunking sounds Ive been hearing over the last few months. It's only been getting worse. The first shop just looked at it and gave up.

The second shop (today) they found a loose bolt on the exhaust manifold. Out the door for $42 dollars and a smooth engine now!
