    very emotional filled video.

they kept talking about "staffing shortages" in the emotion filled video over and over again...

did they ever mention where all their nurses/"staffing" went ? I didn't see that part.

they could very easily fill every single position with travel nurses, if they wanted to. I guess if you fire all your nurses , it's hard to pay them 3x as much when they return as travel nurses don't the exact same job with the same people...

I remember a couple years ago when the propaganda was calling some lines of work "essential" , then the second phase of the division was "front line workers" , and the third stage was "heros work here"... specifically "heros" we're anyone in the medical field....

    then

they changed it to "if you don't get vaccinated you suck!" over night.

then they started with the "staffing shortages" propaganda... they wouldn't even have the decency to say "nurses" , because that would basically be admitting that nurses had been pushed out of their jobs by idiotic mandates...

remember these signs everywhere ? they gone now

When short staffed due to medical workers out from COVID, the temp nurses and medical workers meant the locals get some relief. But the high wages of the temps is understood but not appreciated. My brothers could join the temps at risk of their steady employment.

George did not express resentment at either his employer nor any government. Rather resentment at politicians who spread false medical advice who are scum.

In my neck of the woods, the two hospitals are currently running at 98% of all inpatient beds filled, 99% of ICU beds. COVID patients make up 35% and 58% respectively. I don't have a breakdown by vaxd/unvaxd.

I don't believe it impossible for some possible covid-19 variant to turn out to be no more serious than a common cold. Because 4 known coronaviruses are common colds. So any level of seriousness between delta and common colds won't surprise me.

It seems likely that additional variants will land at various points across that continuum. But it will take a while to figure out where each new variant belongs on that scale.

A nice article with vaccine details: Texas scientists’ new Covid-19 vaccine is cheaper, easier to make and patent-free | Texas | The Guardian

    ...
The Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines currently authorized in the US use different technologies, or vaccine “platforms”. Moderna and Pfizer use messenger RNA (mRNA) technology. This platform introduces the immune system to Covid-19 by delivering instructions on how to produce its most recognizable feature, the spike proteins which coat its surface. This helps the immune system recognize and fight the virus later, if a person is exposed. Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine introduces immune cells to the spike protein through an otherwise harmless cold virus, a technology called viral vector.

The Corbevax vaccine uses a platform called recombinant protein sub-unit technology, which places an actual piece of Covid-19’s spike protein in yeast cells. The yeast cells then copy the vital protein and the protein is introduced to the immune system.

“We make the protein, directly and synthetically, in the lab using the yeast system,” Bottazzi explained. “We ask the yeast to make a protein that looks just like a protein that is made by the virus. Then we immunize the protein and the body then processes this protein and presents it to the immune system. Therefore, you don’t ask your body to do any major manipulation of the coding.”

It is a bright spot of news for a lot of areas.

Our area is now unfortunately worse than ever before

    https://www.wtvq.com/states-covid-positivity-tops-28-more-than-13000-new-cases/

“Omicron is getting worse in the commonwealth. Today’s report is the highest since the pandemic began, with 13,492 newly reported cases, 35 deaths and a record positivity rate of 28.61%. Protect yourself and others – mask up and get your vaccine and booster,” the governor said (watch here).

"The number of patients in hospitals, in intensive care and on ventilators also continue to climb, almost exponentially. Friday’s report had a new record of 2,126 people hospitalized, up from Thursday’s record of 2,098 people in hospital, 2,011 Wednesday, 1,953 Tuesday, 1,873 Monday and 1,856 last Friday; 466 in ICU, up from 459 Thursday, 454 Wednesday, 449 Tuesday, 452 Monday and 423 last Friday; and 226 on ventilators, down from 237 Thursday, 243 Wednesday, 237 Tuesday, 238 Monday and 223 last Friday."

Do you mean two shots or two shots and boosted?

I’m actually thinking about ‘jumping the gun’ and getting a 4th shot using Moderna instead of the three Pfizer I have already. After all, my too many of fellow Alabama citizens chose to not be vaccinated.

    that's good news also.

you would think, with a pandemic, that patents and secrets would be dismissed for the common good of everyone.... the research would be shared, the advancements shared, instead of reaching for profits and secrecy

    yup !!!

since the beginning I've wondered why the lack of coherent information has been so terribly lacking.

I guess the majority of the info is just dumbed down to fit inside the margins of a 3-5 word memorable phrase.... instead of actually linking people to usable information.

for instance, "deaths WITH Rona" is never separated from "deaths FROM rona". that's unfortunate, as it skewes the info and leads to distrust.

"number hospitalized vaccinated" vs "unvaccinated" is never quantified with number of shots, which brand name, boosters, etc.... THAT WOULD BE REALLY GOOD INFO to share with people, but as we can imagine, those darn profits get in the way..

pretty much (always have) (always will) ! the fantasy of mankind over greed is not the strongest defense.

Saw 3 seagulls fighting over a piece of flat bread / pizza in the snow covered road (no rush hour today) as I drove the misses to work this morning.

We have to remember that the possibility of profits is the primary motivation to risk money/effort to develop new products. Relying on researchers driven only by compassion would yield fewer new medical breakthroughs.

Except a lot of research money for the sciences don't have profit strings attached.

That money does not pay for the expensive testing required for safety and effectiveness. The reason that we had three semi-approved Covid vaccines in under a year is that our federal government committed to purchasing their product, before testing for 6 different vaccines under development. This removed the financial risk for the developers.

i think we need both, but i could be wrong. pharma without profits would likely not be as effective, but those profits do need some controls

And without the public spending on basic research, there may not have been a product to fast track with government sourced profits.

A drug was discovered to kill cancer cells in the 'test tube'. It is already known to be a safe medicine, because it is an old generic for something like blood pressure. Which means pharmaceutical companies aren't likely to invest in it for cancer.
