just got it today but the document that i got doesnt show a specific code to input for the engine temp. do you just use the one for alt coolant temp? if not what is the correct one. also what other gauges are practical for keeping on all the time.

You should have a small manual that explains how to program in the Xcodes. I am monitoring engine water temperature, which was a "default" code available right out of the box--FWT stands for degrees Fahrenheit water temperature. I also have monitored GPH which is gallons of gasoline per hour fuel consumption. My other two fields had to have the Xcodes laboriously programmed in digit by digit and they have the acronyms BT2, which is the number two temperature probe on the High Voltage battery which usually runs highest, and BFM which is an indicator of the Battery Fan Motor, from level 0(off) to 6(max). I use the last two fields to detect heat stress on the HV battery--the combination of higher temps and higher fan speeds tells me to minimize load on that battery and increase cooling by using AC in the cabin, etcetera.
    Good luck with yours!
