Hamas is now effectively the Palestinian government...

Lots of scary variables starting to align... Iran making noise about nukes and how Israel should be destroyed, and now this...

    Yikes...

Well that just goes to show you... Democracy doesn't look so pretty when everyone in a country agrees that they hate you...

My exact thoughts. The state dept. must be pissing their pants today despite the calm rhetoric spinning out of D.C.

Sharon in a coma, Hamas in charge of Palastine, and an election upcoming for what will be a, rightfully, paranoid Israel. Too many pieces falling into place that spell trouble.

I agree, but what to do? All I can think of is drive a Prius and buy energy stocks.

Israel will squelch Iran's desire for nukes before it ever bears fruit.

I'm not so sure... All it takes is a really good Arabic coalition...

Although even I have to admit the rhetoric coming out of DC is bit over the top... The EU crowd is willing to work with them vs. GWB issuing ultimatums...

Did it ever occur to anyone else that this American Government Administration doesn't want an energy policy because it is more important for them to stay in office keeping us "safe"? The ties between a lack of energy policy and the escalation of terrorism should not be overlooked.

No one has "proven" to me that there is an "organized" band of terrorists. In the past it was the syndicate, mob, pirates on the sea, crazies, hoods and any of a large other number of descriptors. But now we have a nice organized set of intelligent terrorists? Where's the beef?

9/11 was supposedly organized by Osama Bin Ladin but I have only really seen a few people who hate us for religious reasons organize this outrageous plan of flying planes into a building. All this talk has done is legitimized the extremists in the middle east and given our administration a reason to keep us safe from something I think is a virtual problem. I, for one, don't trust either of those groups. One because they are nuts and the other because they lie to us. Both have proven that.

George Orwell's '1984' gets more relevant all the time, doesn't it?

    Endless war? Check.
    Amorphous enemy? Check.
Legalized real-time spying on own citizens? Check! Check! Check!

But let's not make this about us... the middle-east has their own problems.

My money's on Israel lobbing missiles at Iran's nuke facilities---if their intelligence has shown them exactly where they are---and even targeting the new President if they can nail him, too.

I'd hate to be in the shoes of Sharon's replacement (can't remember name). He must be getting yaps from Netanyahu and all the hawks. Iran stupidly gave Israel almost a carte blanche to lob missiles by needlessly putting themselves in the "wipe Israel off the face of the earth" camp. How stupid can you get?

Israel has shown itself not to be a wallflower when anti-Semitic provocations have presented themselves. Who can argue with them (even on a good day)?

Man if we could only get a "Brave New World" reference in there we would have a dystopia trifecta!

I know! Man... all of the world's problems would be solved if we all had a lot more sex and subscribed to eugenics! :D

Well put. Still Hamas will have a hard time doing much, the state is basically bankrupt and they need money from US and EU to sruvive. I think US is being hardlined to give EU better room to negotiate.

I also don't think Hamas wanted to win. I doubt they are ready to rule. They seem better at being an opposition party.

And laslty I think the vote was less against US (even if they hate us) and more against corruption...

Though Israels election will be a nightmare now!

"the less stitches, the more riches..." that's relevant today too, look at what the media shows us as success and prosperity. poof. the future, as predicted, is here.
