Looking to either sell or trade-in my 2013 PiP with CA green HOV decals.

Looking online, the value is pretty low on trade-in, wondering if there is better value in selling due to the green HOV decals not being issued anymore. Anyone with experience on this? Or advice?

there's always better value in a private sale. why not list it here? lots of cali peeps interested. if the stickers are transferrable, it's a win-win.

Agreed, was planning to list on the private sales forum (assuming that is the appropriate place).

Just turned 48k miles. Looking to sell as I am in the process of buying a Tesla :)

I think the HOV sticker transfers to the new owner. The original owner just can't reapply for a new sticker if he buys another PHEV. If he totals his PHEV and bought another PHEV to replace his original then he can reapply for the HOV sticker for his new PHEV.

If Gov Brown signs the budget bill SB838 we will have more green HOV stickers very soon, so you must wait to see if he unexpectedly chops out that provision.

Plug in America is asking for equal good incentives extension for all PHEV and BEV, but their love stops at Toyota and definitely PiP1 they would asked be stripped of HOV stickers by 2019. Furthermore, PiP1 flunks the CA CARB requirement of 11 miles EV without engine coming on in their test method. So that's probably why we got Prime.

So the implication is PiP1 will lose HOV value in CA by 2019, and PiP owners might shift over to Prime if we ever get a Prime, and assuming we get more green HOV stickers which would need to be extended past 2019 (next session action item).

Tesla uses a third party for trade ins, assuming the worst.

This is straight off the CARB web site... Per SB-838, and effective as of September 13, 2016, the Green Clean Air Vehicle Decal statatury limit has been removed.

Just to clarify, this means that the green HOV stickers will be valid beyond the original 2019 date. Basically, the green and the white are equivalent as far as there is no current expiration date for either sticker. I want to make sure that it is crystal clear.

The expiration date for both Green and White stickers is currently January 1, 2019.

This change only removed the 85k sticker limit for Green stickers.

Maybe next CA legislative session they will extend green stickers, but I suspect PiP itself may get stuck with 2019 end point due to the smaller 4 kWhr battery.

Thanks for the clarification, but I thought the white stickers were not time-limited at all?

It's easier to let a law sunset than to repeal it. At some point in the future, it will not be necessary to spur EV sales. Therefore, an expiration date is mandatory for something like this.

My guess is that there will new legislation to extend both green AND white stickers beyond 2019.
Plug In America is recommending this, so presumably some legislator will at least attempt to advance the cause. The question will be if it passes or not? I would predict the answer is "yes" it will be extended. Probably with time limits (say 3-5 years) on new plug-in vehicles.

The older PiP might get left out though.

The green stickers expire at the end of 2018....
