I don't know what I missed...being on call for the past 2 days...seems like something good! Anyway, I voted yes because I don't like his Avatar...the school girl look should have black plaid.

I like both Jack06 and Squid. That was a nasty exchange and I am glad it was stopped but I hope that we can still engage in lively "debates" without name calling and demeaning posts. I did not post on the one about weight because I have a problem with my weight and it was a sensitive area. If we could all just step back and take a walk in the other guys shoes once in a while thenwe would not be discussing "banning" and "censorship" .

As much as I dislike participating in yet another attempt to turn this into SquidChat, this is too good an opportunity to pass up. I'm suspicious - how can we be sure he doesn't come back as something equally slimy and disgusting?

 

That's why he's doing it---silly! He knows, and he knows PC members know, that he can come back at will under a different identity---or several.

I generally don't like Squid's opinions. Therefore I'd be sorry to see him banned. Unless he's been flaming. I've seen some reference to flaming, but since I skip most of the controversial threads, I don't know who's been doing the flaming. It'd be pretty boring if everyone agreed with me.

What I'd really like to see banned is Windstrings' avatar. That thing gives me the creeps. Maybe Squid could give Windstrings his avatar. That lady is nice.

Of course, it's really impossible to effectively ban anyone from an open chat board because it's too easy to register under another name. It's the essential dilemma of freedom of speech: if you let people say whatever they want, some people are going to say some extremely obnoxious things. If you have an open chat board, there's always the risk of people moving in and taking the fun out of it. The best defense is to ignore them.

I once participated (very briefly) in a moderated chat board where every post was reviewed by a moderator before being posted. It was the most lifeless, dull chat board I'd ever seen. Everybody agreed with everybody else and nobody could challenge any statement or opinion, because divergent opinions were not tolerated.

I just don't open most of the political threads. So I never saw the one that generated all the recent heat.

 

I had to vote no because Danny made it quite clear that this IS the way this place can be. So, he has as much right here as I do.

hey i dont agree with a lot of what squid says either... but now that i think of it, i dont agree with what a LOT of other people say either...

but then again... i didnt come here to hear a bunch of other people just like me. to be honest with ya, as nice as i am...sometimes i get kinda tired of hearing me talk... its refreshing to hear another point of view.

 

I voted No... however, his new avatar is almost enough to make me change my mind.

 

I like squid, lets not ban him. I've met people with much worse opinions than his.

 

You missed the other huge loophole in The Squid's poll – he didn't exactly say which Monday morning he was going to call it.
