HAWAII cars should be a separate package choice. USA Toyota does NOT recognize our VIN. Also our car specs and computer functions are different from the manual specs; such as the HAC doesnt beep and seems to be ALWAYS activated. so in the user package choices on here i think we should have our own designation just like USA and Canada does.

Would you be willing to pay a lot more for your "limited" run production vehicle? Doubtful Toyota would build Hawaii only packages for our limited market.

We all have (not sure about HI) CARB-certified Prii in the USA.
I think that means some "negative" things for many of us: (1) we pay more even if we live in non-CARB, and (2) also we get crappy MPG the first 5 minutes because that's what California wants to prevent smog; and (3) to add insult to injury, having paid these extra costs, Toyota disqualifies CARB-certified Prii from CARB warranty if they were purchased in non-CARB states, even if the owner now lives in a CARB state! Non-sense if you think about it.

If the Prius wasn't such a fabulous great car, you might consider buying a FORD hybrid which is built differently for CARB and non-CARB states, and I think one benefit may be better MPG first 5 minutes in non-CARB states.

I noticed last night that gas was $1.71.
It's been a while since I've been to our 50th state, but I suspect that gas is a little more there, so I also suspect that there are a few more Priuses than say.......Atmore, AL.

    The question is.....HOW many more.
Frankly if everybody in HI went Priusless I don't think that it would move the needles on their global sales very much.
I don't think that Toyota would bother to respond to a petition from a few people other than maybe some form letter.

If there ever is an HI edition Prius it will probably be a badges-only up charged generic Prius.

    Sorry.
I thought Hawaii was in the USA.
I missed the secession ordinances? ;)

    some actual facts:
ALL Hawaii Toyota are imported by SERVCO. And the Hawaii Toyota are NOT the same spec as USA Toyota.

    my opinion:
SERVCO has the best cars ever made by Toyota. it is because of SERVCO policies and specs that Toyota has excelled in Hawaii.

so NO petition is needed. but i think we should have a separate package designation on PriusChat since our specs are different.

Toyota has always been attentive to regional differences in their specs on cars.

well, this morning on high heat, i sure appreciate the Prius c climate controlled heater being so warm even though we were in the low sixties. it sure felt cold outside.

In Puerto Rico, Toyota offers very different packages that those found on the mainland. Even though our cars have to meet Federal Emission and Safety standards. In Puerto Rico a base model Prius does not have EV mode, it only has ECO and PWR modes. There is a blank were you would normally find the EV mode button. If anyone even complained about the price of a Prius, they better have a look at the ones sold in Puerto Rico. For $28,000 you don't get Cruise Control, Back up camera, EV mode, Smart Entry system (not even on the driver's door or cargo area cover. The top of the line "Premium" model is a stripped down version of the Prius package 5 but its more expensive than a fully loaded US version of the Prius 5 with AT package. $35,000 only gets you the base Prius 5 features except no Satellite radio or Entune.

When I was studying in the US, a female medical student was surprised when I told her that Canada was a separate country from the US. She then said she hadn't been to any foreign countries, except Hawaii.

    That's OK....

The folks in Hawai'i get to hear mainlanders (haoles) say:
"When I get back to the States....." ;)

They also have to deal with:
    "...excluding AK and HI."

Toyota cars bought in Hawaii already are Hawaii only packages per the specs of the importer/distributor SERVCO. And our Prii are wonderful beautiful cars; but the specs dont match the manuals. another example is we dont get the Entune feature. and theres no explanation why. maybe itz a safety reason or compliance with local laws against cell phone usage while drivimg. itz anybodys guess as to why.

Are you saying all Prii sold in the US are the same, CARB state or not?

    EPA shows
    Bin 3
    CTYXV01.8HC3
    For a Texas Prius

    and
    PZEV
    CTYXV01.8HC3
    For a California one.

Yes unless there is a recent change, it is my understanding all USA Prii up to now are absolutely identical, CARB certified vehicles, in all states. That's why Toyota has all the special warranty rules about "you have to purchase car in a CARB state" to qualify for CARB warranty if you later move to CARB state. Basically Toyota is saying, for manufacturing efficiency we want to make the same vehicle for all states, but we only want to allow CARB warranty to those cars actually sold in a CARB state.

This compares to FORD or GM which simply say any CARB certified vehcile qualifies for CARB warranty if you live in a CARB state. This is because FORD and GM are not selling CARB certified vehicles in non-CARB states, so thus they have no reason to disqualify CARB certified vehicles. FORD and GM differentiate by emission sticker under the hood, whereas Toyota differentiates based on Toyota policy rules as we all have the same stickers under the hood.

If there is a recent change then maybe Toyota is learning they need to sticker the cars differently. That would be interesting development. It has important ramifications, for example, I could easily go to MD to buy a CARB label car which could retain value better.

I am a little confused if the CARB warranty differential ( 8 vs 10 yrs) continues forever, as I am under the impression all cars will adopt CARB. Not sure I got that right though.
