I live in Mississippi and have been a die-hard prius girlie since 2009 when I saw Vampire Diaries (sue me). Anyways, a car-lot is selling a 2010 1 owner prius 2 with owner with 155k miles for 8,500$. Is it worth it? Mind you we’re not really big on hybrids in my state but the city that has it is my college town that is also our most liberal city.

No. Stay far away from a Gen 3 (2010 to 2015) Prius unless you are a DIYer who can replace a head gasket, traction battery (also called the hybrid vehicle battery) the brake booster, etc. Older hybrids can be a money pit unless you can do the work yourself.

In fact, stay away from used hybrids altogether if that is your price range.
There’s no place to repair them except a dealer, and they will rip you off big time.
Stick with a straight gasser for your own sanity and financial well being.

$8,500 for a 2010 Prius with one owner and 155k miles sounds like a decent deal, especially if it's in good shape I guess

See if you can find a Corolla or Yaris. Used cars are always a gamble, but it you read troubles with Gen 3 Prius here at ;priuschat, you'll understand why the odds are higher for higher repair bills shortly after purchase with an older Prius.

Listen to the Prius veterans here. Used hybrids are expensive to maintain
