Silly parking games

here s a pic of my Prius and a classic i took at the gym a while back. i have another pic that has 2 04's the same classic and an 05 all next to each other. (well sort of, in the other pic the cars were in two rows but lined up so you could still see the two custom plates. the other one is "GITREAL" i think)

I printed some priuschat cards from the ones that Tony had created and are on a thread some where in priuschat... have found that they come in handy when meeting another Prius owner or someone who is interested about my Prius...

i do it simply because i prefer to park next to people who care about their car as much as i do.

hopefully this tactic will reduce door dings

also i think that "silly" in this context is purely subjective.

it is something that has been done for years and most consider it a good idea, not silly, stupid or unadvised.

may not fall in the category of "birds of a feather"

in fact it may just be a smaller, maybe less significant but nonetheless enjoyable form of recreation. when used this way, i feel its one of the greatest misnomers in the american language.

the term "silly songs" is it meant to mean that only dimwits or simpletons would enjoy the music? or is it music meant for children? according to quixotic.com silly is a term applied to mis-behaving children. there are other definitions of course, but they are much worse.

 

i thought the English Majors primary line was

"Thank you for calling..."

 

Actually there are several primary lines........
"Are you really going to wear that?"
"What were you thinking?"
"Do I remember...?"

Yes, I noticed the Classic parked way to the left in their space, so you wouldn't ding the right side with your driver's door. ;-)

 

I'd love to park next to a Prius...I just can't find any... hmmmmm... was at a large mall yesterday first on one side...No parking spaces and NO Prii... and on the other side same-o, same-o... can't believe that another Prii owner wouldn't be at Sears or Penney's... both stores must have been giving away stuff or the economy isn't as bad as the polls showed before the election... but the mall was wall to wall..

ya its become apparent that the Prius invasion has started and its working its way across the country from both coasts.

if you are in the middle it may take a while to get there

Yay Austin! In parking lot in front of my building at UT, there are 2 Classic driftwoods that often park right next to each other (one recently showed up with a crumpled front end though ). I think it's really funny that they do that--I wonder if it is on purpose.

I still drive a 1993 Ford Escort Wagon (The Prius is on Order, OK?) But when I was still thinking about do I want a Prius or not (I know, silly question), I deliberately parked my old Escort next to the Prius so I could compare the two. After all I'm used to the space of a real compact wagon, not too big but I can haul a whole camping trip in it. See Mom's Taxi for full explanation.

The Prius was a bit longer, with more space in the back seat, about the same in the rear, but the sloping roof will cut back on the amount of junk I can toss into it.

Since I've now done the test drive, I can report that the Prius rear seats fold down flatter, but the back area is higher (to go over those batteries), but the storage under the main platform will be useful. It will be a bit tighter to fit in the whole camping trip, but I'll probably be able to make it work.

You'll make it work because it is a great car. You might find that the extra rear seat foot room makes up for some of the vertical loss in the back. If it is still too tight, you can get the Coastal Tech receiver hitch and a rear storage tray.

 

My friends say that I am out of control or crazy, I agree.

First of all, I am the guy who usually parks his car way out on the perimeter of the parking lot so no one dings his car. However, I don't park too far away from the other cars, but just far enough so that it won't get dinged. If I park too far away, then it's in the "danger zone" where people go speeding through the parking lot recklessly, and may completely crash into my car in their moment of joyride.
If I have to park next another car, by no means will it be an American car or an SUV. I try to park next to other Toyotas, preferably sedans, and that goes without saying, a Prius. I know it's shallow, abnormal, classist, whatever, I tend to judge people by what kind of car they drive. Like judging someone by another criteria, it's not entirely accurate, but it works sometimes. Most people I see in big American vehicles generally don't care about the environment (gas guzzlers) nor themselves (overall low safety ratings), so why would they care about dinging or scratching the little red Japanese car next to theirs. People who drive safe, nice cars (Toyota, Honda, VW, etc) usually care more about themselves and their surroundings, and maybe less likely to recklessly throw their door open into the side of my door. I see it happen in parking lots all the time; the guy in the F-250 with the confederate flag bumper sticker is more likely to ding my door than the math professor in his Passat.

Beside that fairly rude reason, I always like parking next to another Prius, so when the owner comes to his/her car, they can see they are not alone, and get that giddy feeling. I know I always get giddy when I see another Prius in the parking lot, especially next to mine

You aren't wierd, just cautious? I don't park out in the 'back 40' but I do now choose my parking space a bit more carefully.

 

great advice tony but i bet you have a much harder time finding a space between two cars worth more than your Prius...
