The lights switch was in the on position when you turned the car off and closed all the doors..
With all doors closed open just the front passenger's door and sit in the passenger's seat.
Then reach over and press the start button twice.
The car will come to Ready and the lights will be on.
Reach over and press the start button once to turn the car off.
    Close the passenger's door.
The lights will stay on forever and run the battery down.
If you open the driver's door the lights will go off.
Sure would appreciate someone else trying this to see if you get the same results.
I am using CoastalTech's LockPick and EV mods.

Yep. The lights will ONLY go off if the driver's door is opened. Not a good way to cut cost (as opposed to the timer used on other Toyota vehicles where the lights turn off after a set time that's dealer-adjustable. Default is 30 sec)
