My husband and I have been going back and forth on if the Smartkey FOB would be considered in the warranty. I haven't looked in detail or called Toyota yet on this, but my assumption is that it would be considered an accessory...and therefore not covered under warranty. Does anyone out there know for sure?

I would assume the answer to that question is "YES" as long as the car is covered under the warrantee.

I'd suspect they'd consider it part of the 1st year/12k mile warranty period if it was malfunctioning.

not being a part of the car does make it much more vunerable to abuse, but its not a cheap item to replace. i guess that is why they give you two of them

I'd say the original two are covered under 3/36 warranty unless obvious signs of abuse (corrosion, cracked, missing). I don't know what the warranty would be on a new fob that did not come with the car.
