Was averaging about $2.55 or so here in SE WI. Then suddenly gas prices in many stations skyrocketed to $2.99 a gallon. Yeah, it's still nothing compared to you poor folks in California, but a nearly 50 cent jump in prices overnight is a bit odd.

One station in particular was $2.54 yesterday morning. Then on my way to work last night, it was $2.72. And on my way home this morning, it was suddenly $2.99.

And normally I do 60-65 mph on the freeway, and get passed up regularly by quite a few other drivers. Today, just doing 60 mph, I was passing up almost everyone, who probably saw the $3 gas prices as well.

It seems that writing tickets for people speeding isn't as effective at slowing people down as gas prices being jacked up...

Glad the prius helps buffer that sticker shock a little bit. Meanwhile I managed to locate a gas station near my house that was still $2.52. Filled up 6 gallons and according to fuelly.com I averaged 58.48 mpg since last filling up on Aug 1st.

Not bad considering I drive a five trim with those mpg-sapping 17 inch wheels...

Refineries run close to capacity so there isn't much excess capacity to cover maintenance and repairs.

Wow, prices are averaging about $3.29 now. Guess that's less money people are going to spend in the gas station now, as a lot of it is going towards gas thanks to what suspiciously seems like price gouging.

On the other hand, a lot more people are driving slower now. Sure, I still get passed while doing 60 mph on the freeway, but instead of people zooming by, it's more of a slow, gradual overtake. And almost every car I saw pass me by were smaller cars. There were a couple of SUV's and trucks still speeding like before, but the vast majority of them have taken over the right lane.

I've been passing so many people up just doing my usual routine that I feel like the speeding person now lol.

So this morning: U.S. crude oil steadies from six-and-a-half-year low| Reuters

U.S. crude oil steadied on Friday after falling to its lowest in almost 6-1/2 years as huge stockpiles and refinery shutdowns heightened concerns about global oversupply.

Oil had already tumbled more than 3 percent on Thursday, driven by a report that stocks at Cushing, Oklahoma, the delivery point for U.S. crude futures, rose more than 1.3 million barrels in the week to Aug. 11.

U.S. crude CLc1 hit an intraday low of $41.35 a barrel, its lowest since March 2009, before recovering to $42.86 by 1338 GMT, up 63 cents on the day.

I didn't notice an increase today if Florida but even if it goes up 50 cents a gallon its only $5 a tank full..
(remember when radio stations would do promotions and discount gas 10 cents a gallon and people would line up for hours to top off the tank, than they realize they saved about a dollar or less)

Regular 87 gas at Costco in Warrenton Oregon is $2.859 / gallon. It has dropped about 20 cents per gallon since last month or so.

I have seen it as low at $2.17 here in N.J. I believe it is going to go a lot lower after labor day. WTI $43.50 as of today.

I live in a suburb of Chicago. In just 4 days the price of gas went from $2.56 to $3.50 per gallon. "Reasons" range from refinery problems at BP whiting, IN to increase in demand because of summer driving. The same old stuff.

I would imagine that the people who dumped their Prius for the gas guzzlers because of the low gas prices would like to have them back.

The whining never stops. The focus shifts. Those believing they are being "gouged" should own shares of the refiners and transports. I suppose Prius prices also firmed up.

$2.179 in Ft. Lee is good. Down in Delran it is $2.139. Never thought there would be such a narrow spread.
