This incomplete list of rumors, suggestions and news, feel free to contribute:
    - higher efficiency ICE (~10% more efficient)
    - better aerodynamics (radiator shutters)
    - Plug-in (and larger capacity battery to go with)
    - likely to look similar
    - ~20% better fuel economy
    - still handles like crap :(

I think we will see several half gens rather than a new gen iv any time soon.

I would like to see the active grille shutters for the plug in because that would help winter MPG as well as aero.

It will be interesting to see if there is a mid-generation refresh to coincide with the PHV.

It is truly refreshing, after DECADES of the same ole MPG from Detroit to now anticipate 10 - 50% improved fuel economy with each new generation of the Toyota Prius.

I think the Gen IV news will mostly be 15 EV range and DI engine,
while the Gen V news willl be incremental improvement in the DI and double EV range.

unlikely. PHV "as is" is a stop gap solution to fight Volt publicity, aftermarket conversion kits and to lesser degree Leaf.

Toyota is waiting for Chevron patents to expire in 2014, then they can triple current NiMH battery w/o major costs. Would not make any sense to do any major design refresh around current pack.

I think Prius v will show a lot of "new" things for Prius - like Entune system and better handling overall (according from reports from Japan), although i dont personally think 17" Prius handles bad at all.

Never driven a 17" version but the two 15" ones had more body rolls than Nell Carter.

From the top of my head:
    Power Seats!
    Visors with extenders
    Higher MPG (of course)
    Auto on-off & DRL lights
Totally redone USB iPod integration, though I love the Bluetooth Streaming
    Blind Spot Indicators
    Power Tailgate

I'd love to see aftermarket grille shutters (even manual), the pipe insulation looks so bad. When I was in High School and College I worked in a sheet metal shop part time. Oh for the availability of that equipment now.

It would be slick if they made a corresponding retrofit kit for the older Prii.

I think they should have a solar panel that actually charges the battery. I know it wouldn't help much, but it's something!

Based on the 2nd gen's running time, I don't expect to see a '4th gen' regular Prius until model year 2016 (intro in 2015) calendar year.

I want to see the same basic shape of course, it's a great size.

    * A more refined interior with things (door armrests, steering wheel) in even better positions.
    * Floating bridge console is a little intrusive, I'm a bit torn on that one
    * better wheels please (I'm seeing more non-V models with wheelcovers off and you get that cheesy looking open hole in the center. Many people aren't going to cover that hole)

    >> must have sun visor on a sliding arm to extend on sides. Such a simple device. My Accord has it for driver and front passenger.

    * How about a simple coin holder around driver's area.
    * Little more inviting fabric on seats
    * Some lumbar support built into fabric seats.

There's a tray that holds coins perfectly in the center console...

I personally like the flying bridge, it is unique and I love the storage under it.

Just realize you are already on the flatter portion of the MPG vs Gal / mile curve. If you get a gas only Prius with 75 MPG average the difference will be 2.6666 gallons refill after 400 miles (8 gal vs. 5.333).

That's cool and all, but realize the big savings of gasoline and CO2 is getting people from 20 MPG vehicles up to 40 or more (that's 10 gal difference at 400 miles)
This is like going from an older RX350 to a Prius v (downsizing cars for family of 5).

Flying bridge is not bad actually. Only fault I could make is it bumps my knee if I put cruise control on, and bring feet away from pedals.

Agree.. with $4/gal and amount of miles we put it costs less then 200$ a month to fill up Prius. Even with worse case scenario $6/gal and the optimistic 20% MPG improvement it still be only 60$ a month saving at most, not enough to trade in.

On other hand for someone driving as much as we in 18MPG SUV, spends 600$/mo on gas. Trading SUV for Prius will save 400$ a month, enough to pay for Prius.

IMHO higher MPG # at this MPG/gas cost point is not about saving $$$, it is more a marketing tool.

I hear ya, but in the next generation, Toyota, IMO, needs to focus on making the car as attractive as possible so that no one begins to think the Prius is an 'economy car' or 'econobox', nor does anyone post a thread saying -

'anyone else traded luxury for a Prius V?' This means it was a little bit too big step down from a BMW or Mercedes E class (I think lot of that has to do with no power seat on Prius, possibly leather quality and some other interior touches, or SLT).

Not to be a jerk, but I doubt people say, anyone else traded luxury for an Accord EX-L ? Not quite so fair, since Accord is 8th gen and Prius is 3rd.

But isn't this is why the Lexus CT200h exists? I think the HS 250h was a misstep (not really attractive design wise), but the CT is nice(r).

The CT200h is just an entry level compact Lexus hybrid and has nothing to do with the Prius.

I would not buy a CT200h - it is too small.

Current 3rd gen Prius has a stellar size, inside and out. I cannot name you one other car on the planet that comes very close to Prius combination of room, efficiency, practicality, comfort, etc...
