I own a 2010 Prius III with a plain roof. Looking at the roof, and the way it is joined to the rest of the car, it looks like it might possibly be removeable without doing any cutting or welding. If so, maybe it is possible to replace that plain roof with the solar panel roof.

    Does anyone know?

I'm with you. I'm about to get a Prius V and I would love to modify the roof with the 4 pieces of roof assembly that make up the solar roof. I figure it would be an easier mod than getting a Prius IV with the roof already and then trying to add on all of the goodies found on a Prius V with the advanced technology package. The real problem is finding the actual roof parts and finding a technician brave enough to put it in and retro-wire all of the electronics including the cooling fan feature, etc.

Wow! you folks are 'way ahead of me, installing a solar roof on a V!

I'm still trying to figure out what it does in detail. The Toyota site and slick lit are short on real info.

Does it run even when the car is operating, helping out the regular A/C?
Or does it only run when the car is parked and you've enabled it?
Is the 3-minute timer just on the remote keyfob usage or other times?
Does the solar panel help charge the main batteries while operating?
How long will it run when parked and enabled? The lit says it only works if there is at least some charge on the main batteries so is there some interaction there?

Heck, I should just open the moonroof and use my solar powered beanie cap!

    Thanks for any info, sideman59.

Does not run when car is running. Starts ventilation fan 20 minutes after power off and will function until you open the door. Don't know why battery charge would affect it. The fob button is for the 3 minute AC run only.

No, it only powers a fan to recycle outside air.

    A few corrections.

It's 10 mins. And it still runs when you open the door. It's the Remote A/C that shuts off when the door is opened. Battery charge affects the Remote A/C operation. It doesn't affect the SPVS.
