Hi all! I am new to the forums and have some questions about a Prius as
well as general car buying questions when dealing with Toyota.

    I have decided on a 2008 Prius/Touring. Magnetic Grey with package 6.
I decided to get on the waiting list here in NH and put a down payment
to secure the car I want. It appears they sell them as fast as they get
them and two different dealerships quoted me MSRP. (sigh).

My first question is that package 6 comes with an alarm system. Would
this be the RS3200 VIP Alarm with window breakage? Or do I have to make
sure I select the alarm system as an interior extra package? I am under the
assumption due to using the Toyota website that is comes with package 6
and there is no price increase when selecting it.

Next, does anyone have Lojack and would recommend it? I live in an area
where frankly I do not hear of many people getting their car stolen. Any
reason why I should consider it besides the most obvious of recovering a
    stolen car?

I have read that the Prius paint chips easily but the dealership said they
have not heard of any problems. If I was worried they recommened Roadblock.
It seems to be a film applied to key areas. Anyone use it or has thoughts on
    this topic?

How many of you got GAP coverage? It seems to make sense but do I want
it from my insurance company or from the dealership? Or maybe not at all!
    Thoughts on this?

What are your opinions and thoughts on the dealership's Auto Care Programs
or Toyota Extra Care service agreements? You probably remember those
pamphlets they handed you... I am tending to think that both of the deals
are not very good but I can and have been wrong before! Thoughts?

Did anyone have heated seats added to your Prius and was it worth it?
Meaning was the install done nicely and the on/off switches mounted in a
good place in the dash? Or do you regret the decision as they goofed something
    up?

I have done a lot of research on the car itself and I am sure it is what I want.
Of course I have gone through the motions of wondering if I picked the color
I like the most but I am sure we all go through that.

I guess what worries me the most is the buying part which seems natural.
Since I cannot seem to get a better price on the MSRP I do not wish to be
"stiffed" on anything extra that I do not need. For example I was told that
navigation updates are 250. Should I be asking for anything like that in writing
or will I buy the car and find out two years later they want 400?

This is all exciting and stressful at the same time. There is so many things
to worry about and it all revolves around money or dealing with the sales/finance
folks. For example they cannot nail down an interest rate until the day
the car arrives. That makes it tough to shop around until you know what
they will offer versus banks/credit unions.

Thanks for reading this and any replies/advice/opinions you can offer. If I have
any more questions I will add to this post.

    I can answer a few:

The alarm system is standard with most models. Unless otherwise stated, the alarm does not include the window breakage sensor, but it can be added at any time for an extra cost.

The Prius is nearly impossible to steal without a flatbed truck or a carjacking. Lojack is not really necessary.

MSRP is about as good as you are going to get with today's gas prices. Consider yourself lucky if you can make that deal.

The paint on the Prius is environmentally friendly but a little on the soft side. Chips are common. I can't answer about the paint protection.

Prepaid maintenance is always a loosing deal, unless you happen to get really unlucky (or lucky, depending how you look at it). The Prius has a great reliability record, so pass on the prepaid maintenance and extended warranty. If you insist on the extended warranty, buy it from this site instead of the dealer.

I don't have gap insurance, but I paid cash. The Prius does not depreciate as fast as other cars, so gap insurance is not as important.

I don't have heated seats. I do live in a cold climate, and find the cloth seats just fine in the winter.

Hope this helps. You are going to love your new Prius.
