Apparently this Prius owner couldn't wait a few more years for the Prius t. One funny sidenote to this photo is that it was taken in Brevard, North Carolina, where PriusChat was HQ'd a couple years ago. I've been in that Ingles many, many times. Sadly, I never saw the "concept" Prius Truck. [IMG] Source [WorldCarFans]

It doesn't look completely terrible...wonder how he does fuel economy wise. Also wonder what he hauls in it that he couldn't haul by leaving it as it was.

I think that's very interesting! Hope someone corporate takes note of this interesting design/idea. Meaning, a hybrid truck would be welcome too... small trucks are a great idea. I think the hybrid truck idea's been knocked about for a long time ... the challenges are many though. Truck buyers may expect things that a Prius-type drivetrain and fragility cannot provide. Prius is a great car for its time, and for what it is .. and I do have 150K on mine (2007) but it's not the hardiest car I have ever had.

I really like how the back doors aren't blended into the truck bed.

    i love it.

what can he do that a prius can't do... sheetrock.. a box bigger than 2.5 ft by 2.5 ft... a five gallon bucket of anything... the list goes on.. i do construction

my father has been wanting to do this exact same thing... i'll show it to him.

i would make the rear doors into tool boxes.. so you can open them up and have two shelves on the door that holds two boxes.... maybe just 1... shrug..

a small durable truck isn't cheap.. a used prius turned into a truck is cheap.. and it's probably a lot better mpg wise then any small truck will ever be... i wonder if it's any lighter.. glass weighs a lot...

As a stop gap measure, you can install a hitch and buy a utility trailer for probably as low as $500. Some folding trailers may make street parking easier as well.

I'm not saying this is a great or permanent solution, but will probably work occasionally.

Is the Prius bed really 4' wide with the wheel wells?

Yup he can do 4x8 ft plywood which was my criterion for my *other* car. You can't do that with a Highlander, maybe a Sienna can do, not sure.

    That's why I still have my beloved 4Runner. :D

I have always stated, "You can't haul a piece of plywood in a Prius!"

    Until now......

Maybe one of you know more on this.

Five years ago, the thing holding Toyota back from offering a hybrid pickup is the risk if one spun it's wheels in the dirt....plenty of potential for the electric motor to burn up.

Compared to the every winter problems cold country Prii face on ice and snow, that's a non-issue. I think someone made that up and BSed you.

So true. Traction control would limit any wheel spin. AFAIK, Toyota has never built a hybrid that they approved for off road use anyways. I thought they cancelled it because they weren't satisfied with the battery endurance when hauling and towing.
