new recall came out today for a whole bunch of cars and there are 46 prii involved. model years are 2004, 2005 and 2006. letters are mailed to the owners as of the beginning of april.

the side or side curtain airbags weren't properly assembled and may not inflate all the way.

if you purchased your vehicle from any of these dealerships, you may be a part of the recall. if you like we can verify your VIN or you can call the dealer and they should be able to pull up the recall and double check for you.

edit: or you can just check at this website. http://60b-lookup.imagespm.info/fra_home.cfm

Were any of the 2006 models delivered last week? We just got ours from Fox.

    Thanks,
    Tom

IIRC these are all very early '04 models that are affected..

So, if I see my dealership on the list, is there anywhere I can check if it's my car?

I mean, of course, aside from waiting for the letter; I'm impatient :D

04 through 06 vehicles are affected.

there was only one from Fox and the VIN ends in 003208. they did mention the possibility that dealer stock vehicles may be a part of the recall. (and of course the spiel about having the work done before delivery, etc etc etc)

i have the master VIN list here, betelgeuse- if you tell me which dealer it is i'll tell you the end of the VIN.

Does that list include the dealer that finally sold the car? My dealer told me they traded a model they were getting and didn't need with another dealer to get my car rerouted from the factory... i would assume toyota updated their notes when the car was rerouted, but you know what they say when you assume something...

you'd assume so... but as you said...

if you know your vehicle was transferred from another dealer, you could always just call up the dealer and ask them to check your VIN.

    Thanks galaxee. You're the best!

So, if I get a response that it's "not a valid VIN," does that mean that I'm in the clear?

    you're very welcome :)

we checked ours, which is not on the list, and we also got a "not a valid VIN" so that means you're okay.

    well we know you're okay

    the car is okay.

I got the same "not a valid VIN" so it seems I'm in the clear too. :)

The site must have a list of VINs that are affected and assumes that anyone who goes there wants to see what needs to be done. They should have a "not part of recall" message that comes up, but I suppose that if your car was affected and entered your VIN wrong, you'd think you were safe.

    Thanks for posting this galaxee.

well the site isn't exactly designed for customers as you can probably tell. this is more for dealer use, specifically once the VIN has been determined to be part of the campaign to determine which component needs to be replaced and providing the relevant ordering info.

    but hey. it's useful. :)

My dealer wasn't on the list but I checked the VIN anyways and it looks like my car's ok too. Also got this message via an email from Cathy of the OC Prius club. Thanks galaxee and Cathy for the headsup!!
